11%

I nearly fell off my chair Thursday when listening to Lynn Samuels! Not being the TV cointisiour of manure that she is, I have no idea what show it was, but some show where the contestants have to guess or come closest to whatever the poll question that was asked to X # of people by Rasmutin (sic!), well the last one was, you guessed it, what %age of Americans still support the "war" in Iraq. Well guess what the answer was...take a guess...
11%!!!
You read that correctly, 11%. MEANWHILE, OUR GODDAMN WORTHLESS COMPLIMENT PROPAGANDA MEDIA JUST KEEPS TRUDGING ALONG LIKE 99.999% SUPPORTS THIS FUCKING BULLSHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Again I have to say: LIBERAL MEDIA? MY ASS!!!
HERE is the only liberal media: the bloggers that aren't rightwing wackadoodles, Air America, Mike Malloy & Nova M, Stephanie Miller, Bill Press, Neil Rogers, Pacifica (mainly Democracy Now! w/ Amy Goodman), Keith Olbermann, and a handful of other national and local shows, THAT'S FREAKIN' IT. The mainstream media SUCKS, OK! Sucks...bites...blows...isn't ANY good! They suck Publican asshole so hard they could suck the Goodyear blimp through a coffee straw!!!

3,800 DEAD US SOLDIERS (that's just the ones who died "in theatre" OH GODDAMNIT TO HELLFIRE ON A STICK, don't you just FUCKING HATE HATE HATE that term!? Like it's a fucking Neil Simon production or some shit?!?!?! NO COCKSUCKER, THIS IS ***REAL***!!!!) FOR THE BU$Hitler CRIME FAMILY'S *ILLEGAL* WAR/OCCUPATION OF IRAQ FOR OIL.
(And does ANYONE report ANYTHING from Afghanistan anymore?!?!!?)
Notice something!? The number KEEPS GOING UP! And it will CONTINUE TO GO UP...until this fucking BULLSHIT finally comes to a long overdue end. Beyond belief that it was even allowed to happen in the FIRST FUCKING PLACE. Just for the record, I am going to keep posting posts like this UNTIL THIS BULLSHIT ILLEGAL OCCUPATION COMES TO ITS MUCH OVERDUE END.
Just what in the FUCK is it going to take America?!?!?!?!?!?!? 4,000?! 10,000?! 40,000?!
Oh I'm sorry to bother you, American Fucking Idol is on and you just got a call on your goddamn iFoney!!!

What Pulibans were saying when Clinton committed troops to Bosnia

"You can support the troops but not the president."--Disgraced ex-Rep Tom "Drunky McPukeshoes" Delay (Retard-TX)

"Well, I just think it's a bad idea. What's going to happen is they're going to be over there for 10, 15, maybe 20 years."--then Rep. Joe "Dead Intern" Scarborough (Retard-FL)

"Explain to the mothers and fathers of American servicemen that may come home in body bags why their son or daughter have to give up their life?"--SlantHead Hannity, Fox News, 4/6/99

"[The] President . . . is once again releasing American military might on a foreign country with an ill-defined objective and no exit strategy. He has yet to tell the Congress how much this operation will cost. And he has not informed our nation's armed forces about how long they will be away from home. These strikes do not make for a sound foreign policy."--then Sen. Rick "Bring A Fetus Home To Show the Family" Santorum (Retard-PA)"

"American foreign policy is now one huge big mystery. Simply put, the administration is trying to lead the world with a feel-good foreign policy."--Drunky McPukeshoes again

"If we are going to commit American troops, we must be certain they have a clear mission, an achievable goal and an exit strategy." --Karen Hughes, on behalf of George W Booosh (cuz he was probably too busy playing Pac Mac and snorting an 8-ball off of Karl Rove's bone)

"I had doubts about the bombing campaign from the beginning . . I didn't think we had done enough in the diplomatic area."--Senator Trent "Cross Burners R Us" Lott (R-MS)

"I cannot support a failed foreign policy. History teaches us that it is often easier to make war than peace. This administration is just learning that lesson right now. The President began this mission with very vague objectives and lots of unanswered questions. A month later, these questions are still unanswered. There are no clarified rules of engagement. There is no timetable. There is no legitimate definition of victory. There is no contingency plan for mission creep. There is no clear funding program. There is no agenda to bolster our over-extended military. There is no explanation defining what vital national interests are at stake. There was no strategic plan for war when the President started this thing, and there still is no plan today"--Drunky McPukeshoes yet again

"Victory means exit strategy, and it's important for the President to explain to us what the exit strategy is."-- then Texas's worst Governor George W. BU$Hitler

HS STUDENT SUSPENDED FOR EDWARDS T-SHIRT
jandopete in Action
9/24/2007

My family would like our fellow Edwards supporters to know that one of his high school supporters in Texas, my son, has received an IN-SCHOOL SUSPENSION FOR WEARING A JOHN EDWARDS T-SHIRT TO SCHOOL, having been told that it is in violation of the new school dress code. Clearly, this violates his protected right to free speech, and is the subject of a federal suit that he anticipates filing within the week, should the situation not be resolved to our satisfaction. We called the campaign to notify, but (understandably) had trouble getting through to anyone who might make the Senator aware of how deeply his supporters feel about his candidacy in Texas. I think this issue would interest Senator Edwards and his campaign staff. We ask that fellow Edwards supporters make both the campaign and their own school districts aware of the fact that political speech does not stop at the schoolhouse door!

THE WAR ON TERROR:
US Military snipers in Iraq are "baiting" Iraqis.

On Friday, Republican Senators once again were able to block an amendment that would set a timeline for bringing home US troops. Here is how they voted.

The Iraq war is costing US taxpayers $500,000 a minute.

The war budget is expected to reach $200 billion for ’08.

Revolt of the Generals: Generals opposing the war in Iraq break with military tradition.

The Iranians say they are using satellites to monitor US troop movements, and that those troops are within their missile range.

Meanwhile, a secret US Air Force team has been reestablished to plan an Iran attack.

The US military feels that Iran is smuggling weapons into Iraq to use on US forces.

BLACKWATER:
Back to "normal." Blackwater has been given the Ok to resume business in Iraq.

But Blackwater is expected to face criminal charges in Iraq within days.

The security company is also under investigation for smuggling weapons into Iraq.

Complaints against Blackwater have gone on for some time but the US took little action.

THE ’08 CANDIDATES:
In a new book, Bush says that Hillary Clinton will win the Dem. nomination…but lose the election.

Hillary Clinton hit the Sunday talk show circuit talking health care, Iraq war and troop withdrawal.

Hillary wants to support the troops by "bringing them home."

SIDEBARS:
The stars are out: Gore and Schwarzenegger are joining world leaders today at the UN Meeting on Global Warming.

A secret lobbying campaign has been launched by phone service providers to get Congress to wipe out lawsuits against them for their part in the warrantless wiretapping programs.

The left coast might have the right stuff as California is seeking a universal health care plan.

Columbia University Shows True American Values

by Thom Hartmann

Columbia University, by inviting Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to speak, has shown confidence in the wisdom and adultness of their students and our republic.

Ahmadinejad is the president of a major nation in a vital part of the world, and we should have enough self-assurance and belief in our own system of government, and in the intelligence of our college students, that we can let them (and our larger public) evaluate his words, whatever they may be.

To be terrified of his speaking there (or, for that matter, laying a wreath at Ground Zero) is behavior one would have expected from a fragile régime like Khrushchev's USSR or Burma's military junta, not the bold, brave, and fearless USA.

We are the nation whose President Nixon reached out to and met with China's Mao Tse Tsung at the same time Mao was funding and arming the North Vietnamese to kill our soldiers in Vietnam. We're the nation whose President Reagan confronted Soviet President Gorbachev, who at the time had thousands of nuclear warheads armed and pointed at us and was actively funding and arming proxy wars we were fighting in more than a half-dozen nations. We're the nation whose President Roosevelt said, "We have nothing to fear but fear itself."

And let's also remember that the people of Tehran, Iran, produced one of the largest candlelight vigil demonstrations in the Muslim world in support of the USA the day after 9/11, repudiating the act and actors of that event. We still have the ability to make an ally of that nation, and shouldn't blow it by fear and bluster (or bombs). America is better and stronger than the nervous Nellies and chickenhawk war-mongers who currently have control of the Republican Party (and a few Democrats, apparently).

As JFK said: "We are not afraid to entrust the American people with unpleasant facts, foreign ideas, alien philosophies, and competitive values. For a nation that is afraid to let its people judge the truth and falsehood in an open market is a nation that is afraid of its people."

We are not afraid. We are Americans!

_____________

http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/09/10/woman.tortured/index.html

Six West Virginia residents have been charged with kidnapping, torturing and sexually assaulting a Charleston woman for at least a week, the Logan County Sheriff's Department said Monday.

Sheriff's deputies went Saturday to a Big Creek, West Virginia, residence in response to an anonymous tip that a woman was being held against her will, the department said in a news release.

As they spoke with a woman on the front porch, "a female inside the residence limped toward the door with her arms held out, saying, "Help me."

The 23-year-old woman had stab wounds on her left leg and bruises around her eyes, authorities said. The wounds were about a week old, the release said.

"Deputies found her with two black eyes, part of her hair had been pulled out, she had lacerations on her neck, and she had been physically, mentally and sexually abused," Logan County Sheriff W.E. Hunter said.

The victim was forced to eat rat and dog feces and drink from the toilet, according to the criminal complaint filed in magistrate court, The Associated Press reported.

Deputies arrested Frankie Brewster, 49; her son Bobby, 24; Danny J. Combs, 20, of Harts, West Virginia; and George A. Messer, 27, Karen Burton, 46, and Alisha Burton, 23, all of Chapmanville, West Virginia. All six were held Monday in lieu of $100,000 bond each, and all have asked for court-appointed public defenders, according to AP.

Charges range from kidnapping and torturing to malicious wounding and battery.

Those arrested are white and the victim is black, and the FBI plans to investigate it as a possible hate crime, according to AP. The sheriff's department requested the FBI's participation, an agency spokesman told AP.

2 great headline/articles from Buzzflash.com!

MoveOn.org Takes a Principled Stand And Holds Its Ground Against the Cowards in the Senate. MoveOn Supports Our Troops; Most of the Senate Supports a Phony Bush Narrative That Has Nothing to Do With Reality or the Health and Welfare of Our GIs. BuzzFlash.com Proudly Commends MoveOn For Its Firmness in Denouncing Those in the White House and Congress Who Have Betrayed Our GIs and America. Thanks for Not Backing Down in the Face of Gross GOP Hypocrisy. (The sad thing is that about half of the Democrats voted for the Diversionary, Demagogic Senate Condemnation of MoveOn.)

and

Repost: George Lakoff for BuzzFlash.com on the Real Betrayal of America. "The American people have been betrayed by the architects and apologists for the invasion and occupation of Iraq. By avoiding the politeness trap in a patriotic, direct, and factual way, MoveOn correctly framed the betrayal of trust for what it is." -- A BuzzFlash Guest Contribution

MY take on Andrew Meyer!

Ok, let's all STOP, take a DEEEEEEP breath of *COUGH* not-so-fresh air...
Yeah, the kid was a bit asshat, BUT, that's not against the law, is it?! Especially given the depth of his questions, most notably references to SKULL AND BONES as well as BUSH IMPEACHMENT VS CLINTON IMPEACHMENT FOR A FUCKING BLOW JOB. Here's the deal, why couldn't the cops, well, rather the event staff, just cut his mic, and say "Ok, you are done, thank you, bye bye!" and if he persisted then "we will now as you to leave" and then if that's not good enough "Ok, we are calling the police" instead of just going absolutely gorilla-dick! Would that not be the more CIVILIZED THING TO DO!? Instead of IMMEDIATELY go to the FASCISTIC PSYCHO TACTICS?! Hey, sure, Andrew Meyer, is no doubt a shit-stirrer. http://www.theandrewmeyer.com Judge for yourselves. So?! But that's not the fucking POINT! Are we no longer as Americans allowed to ask HARD AND REAL questions of the FUCKING GODDAMN PEOPLE WHO'S SALARIES WE PAY?! AND WHOM REPRESENT US TO THE WORLD?! It is not like he walked up to Kerry, and gave him a nut-kick for fucks fucking sake, com'on!!!! (I could say something right now...re: not having any...)(And is has NOTHING to do with him pussying-out with not challenging the OBVIOUS OHIO 2004 ELECTION FRAUD...)(And no, it's nothing harmful...unless you consider "torture" forcing him to listen to the entire Michael Bolton catalogue followed by 900 hours of DEATH METAL for chickening out...)(Listen Sen. Kerry, you'd be a damn good president, and I love you in a hetero-sexual-platonic way, but BUTCH UP PLEASE!) Now, again, I am not saying this kid was without fault. But let's just say for argument's sake he IS mentally ill. SO THEN YOU HAVE A CASE OF COPS TASERING SOMEONE WHO IS MENTALLY ILL!!!!!!!!!!! The REAL issue is NOT what Andrew Meyer said. It's how these PIGS, and YES THEY ARE FUCKING PIGS, did NOT in any way shape or form act professionally. When you have someone FACE DOWN, OK FINE, HANDCUFF THEM! But to taser them repeatedly?! No. That is fucked up. Over-reacting. THAT is what this is about. And if I didn't say this good enough, go HERE:
http://digg.com/submit?phase=3&url=http://rudepundit.blogspot.com/2007/09/uf-tazing-and-right-to-be-asshole-few.html

And to quote from the above link:

Yes, he did jump to the front of the line to demand to ask Kerry a question, but Meyer was tasered because he wouldn't knuckle under to the authority of the cops. He wasn't a threat, he wasn't violent, he was trying to comply (although you try doing anything rational when you're on the ground with half a dozen cops on top of you, yelling at you and an auditorium of people yelling about, some laughing at, what's being done to you), and he still got tasered.

Our country is so devoid of actual dissent and activism, so filled with citizens cowed by cops and security of all sorts treating us like criminals, that stepping out of line in the smallest way or slightly breaking decorum now seems to deserve a smackdown. Acquiescence is not only expected. It will be enforced. And so many of us are willing to participate in the enforcement, rolling our eyes and laughing at those who would dare misbehave.

More from our favorite bigot!

Little dildolips has a blog that is just hysterical! READ THIS:

From http://blog.myspace.com/ahwahw

September 1, 2007 - Saturday
Taxes, welfare, and other govervnment handouts
Current mood: irritated
Category: News and Politics

THis will be a quick entry. I was looking through some bills, invoice, and other things. I noticed that most of my money goes to taxes. I know this is nothing new to anyone, but seriously how much can one possibly be taxed? Between tax on gas, food, standard sales tax, income tax, self employment taxes, property taxes, luxury tax, gift tax, and tobacco and alcohol tax, I mean this list goes on and on and on. The problem isn't with the taxes, I have no problem financing my government, the problem is the fact most of my money pays for people who dpn't work, or shouldn't be here. Frustrates the hell out of me. Example, I don't have health insurance because I can't afford it, but I make to much for the government to give it to me. A mexican, black, or any other minority that wants it can get it. This pisses me off, here I am paying for there food, housing, and medical insurance and can't afford my own. The real kicker is, if I wasn't giving away 40 percent of my money to support lazy people and illegals I could afford my own insurance. How is this right or fair? One other thing to throw in, well their are many, tobacco tax. Ever hear the idiots at the capital. They raise tobacco tax because they say it will help people quit. What a joke, nicotine is proven to be one of, if not the most addictive drugs known. So by raising taxes all they are doing is increasing profit for the government. Nobody is going to "kick the habit" over 30 cents. Think about it. Its a scam, liberals, better to be called socialist don't want the people rich. Its hard to control a independent and wealthy society. So our government has taxed us to death and put more and more on welfare. If you pay the people they have to listen, you can't "bite the hand that is feeding you". Its about control. The rest of us will get taxed to death untill we will too become dependent on the government. The very government that is not supposed to give hand-outs. Our government is a/was a christian government, built around christian principle. In proverbs it clearly states, if you don't work, you don't eat. Err...

__________________________________________

So I had to reply and SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT:

Son, you have a LOT to learn.
Ok, do you know why you are taxed to death pal?
You probably make under $90,000 a year. Now, let me explain something to you since you were too busy huffing during government class. If you make say $30 million a year, you are only taxed for FICA (look it up) up to the first $90,000 you make. Is that brought to us by liberals?! NO, that was Mr. Ronald Raygoon. That is called a REGRESSIVE TAX. You see son, the conservatives are taxing us in the middle class and the working poor to death. I find it VERY ODD how you make NO mention of companies such as HALLIBURTON who move their HQ's to say DUBIA, UNITED ARAB EMERATES (sic?) (look it up, you do know what a map is, right?) now how AMERICAN of them is that?! Not wanting to pay taxes?! What about CORPORATE WELFARE?! I guess you are for that, since again, you make no mention of it. But I'm sure you think all black people are on welfare, cuz you heard it on Drug-Addled Gas-Bag oxyRU$Hitler Lardass Limbaugh's shit show. Also, thanks to Raygoon and BU$Hitler Jr's tax cuts for the filthy rich, that's ANOTHER reason you pay more taxes. Oh and really nice of you to play the race card and say A mexican, black, or any other minority that wants it can get it." how mature. You say MY profile is filled with IGNORANCE?! Sorry pal, I'm not the one who's one step away from burning crosses and shit like that.
You don't have HEALTH INSURANCE?! Well welcome to America, the ONE country out of 37 industrialized nations that DOESN'T. You pay taxes, right?! So...what do you have against GETTING SOMETHING BACK FOR IT, LIKE THOSE OTHER 36 COUNTRIES DO?! I hope you don't get sick or something, cuz you'll just have to pull yourself up from your boot-straps like a good little Nazi conservative.
You REALLY think you're paying 40% of your money to taxes?! Son, you need to learn how to count, cuz if you are, your accountant is ripping you off or you need a refresher course in math.
"....if by a liberal they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone
who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the
welfare of the people--their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs,
their civil rights, their civil liberties...if that is what they mean by a
"liberal" then I am proud to be a liberal. " -- John F. Kennedy. You have heard that quote, right?!
Also please get this through your thick racist skull:

any Muslim nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising
from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony
existing between the two countries."

_________________________________________________________

James Madison spent 8 years writing the Constitution by himself. The convention modified it some, and added the Bill of Rights (Praise be to Rhode Island for holding out and FORCING the adoption of the BOR!!!) I'm sure Madison, Washington and Adams, at a minimum, are spinning in their graves at what we've let happen to our country. My guess is that they are now revolving about about 3,600 rpm. ;)

Of the quotes below, I selected a couple to highlight here, at the top.

The purpose of separation of church and state is to keep forever from these shores the ceaseless strife that has soaked the soil of Europe in blood for centuries. [James Madison, 1803? Origin questionable]

Ecclesiastical establishments tend to great ignorance and corruption, all of which facilitate the execution of mischievous projects. [James Madison, letter to William Bradford, Jr., Jauary 1774]

The list of Madison's quotes (I'm sure that this is far from the full list; he felt very strongly about this subject, as did most of the Founders).
Keep in mind that NOT ONE of the first 7 Presidents was a 'true' Christian; they were Deists or Agnostics or Unitarians.

  1. Nothwithstanding the general progress made within the two last centuries in favour of this branch of liberty, & the full establishment of it, in some parts of our Country, there remains in others a strong bias towards the old error, that without some sort of alliance or coalition between Gov' & Religion neither can be duly supported: Such indeed is the tendency to such a coalition, and such its corrupting influence on both the parties, that the danger cannot be too carefully guarded agst.. And in a Gov' of opinion, like ours, the only effectual guard must be found in the soundness and stability of the general opinion on the subject. Every new & successful example therefore of a perfect separation between ecclesiastical and civil matters, is of importance. And I have no doubt that every new example, will succeed, as every past one has done, in shewing that religion & Gov will both exist in greater purity, the less they are mixed together; [James Madison, Letter to Edward Livingston, July 10, 1822, The Writings of James Madison, Gaillard Hunt]

  2. An alliance or coalition between Government and religion cannot be too carefully guarded against......Every new and successful example therefore of a PERFECT SEPARATION between ecclesiastical and civil matters is of importance........religion and government will exist in greater purity, without (rather) than with the aid of government. [James Madison in a letter to Livingston, 1822, from Leonard W. Levy- The Establishment Clause, Religion and the First Amendment,pg 124]

  3. That diabolical, hell-conceived principle of persecution rages among some; and to their eternal infamy, the clergy can furnish their quota of impas for such business..." [James Madison, letter to William Bradford, Jr., Jauary 1774]

  4. It was the belief of all sects at one time that the establishment of Religion by law, was right & necessary; that the true religion ought to be established in exclusion of every other; and that the only question to be decided was which was the true religion. The example of Holland proved that a toleration of sects, dissenting from the established sect, was safe & even useful. The example of the Colonies, now States, which rejected religious establishments altogether, proved that all Sects might be safely & advantageously put on a footing of equal & entire freedom.... We are teaching the world the great truth that Govts do better without Kings & Nobles than with them. The merit will be doubled by the other lesson that Religion flourishes in greater purity, without than with the aid of Gov. [James Madison, Letter to Edward Livingston, July 10, 1822, The Writings of James Madison, Gaillard Hunt]

  5. [I]t may not be easy, in every possible case, to trace the line of separation between the rights of religion and the Civil authority with such distinctness as to avoid collisions and doubts on unessential points. The tendency to unsurpastion on one side or the other, or to a corrupting coalition or alliance between them, will be best guarded agst. by an entire abstinence of the Gov't from interfence in any way whatsoever, beyond the necessity of preserving public order, and protecting each sect agst. trespasses on its legal rights by others. [James Madison, in a letter to Rev Jasper Adams spring 1832, from James Madison on Religious Liberty, edited by Robert S. Alley, pp. 237-238]

  6. Ecclesiastical establishments tend to great ignorance and corruption, all of which facilitate the execution of mischievous projects. [James Madison, letter to William Bradford, Jr., Jauary 1774]

  7. What influence, in fact, have ecclesiastical establishments had on society? In some instances they have been seen to erect a spiritual tyranny on the ruins of the civil authority; on many instances they have been seen upholding the thrones of political tyranny; in no instance have they been the guardians of the liberties of the people. Rulers who wish to subvert the public liberty may have found an established clergy convenient auxiliaries. A just government, instituted to secure and perpetuate it, needs them not. [Pres. James Madison, A Memorial and Remonstrance, addressed to the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Virginia, 1785]

  8. Experience witnesseth that ecclesiastical establishments, instead of maintaining the purity and efficacy of religion, have had a contrary operation. During almost fifteen centuries has the legal establishment of Christianity been on trial. What has been its fruits? More or less, in all places, pride and indolence in the clergy; ignorance and servility in the laity; in both, superstition, bigotry and persecution. [James Madison, A Memorial and Remonstrance, addressed to the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Virginia, 1785]

  9. ...Freedom arises from the multiplicity of sects, which prevades America and which is the best and only security for religious liberty in any society. For where there is such a variety of sects, there cannot be a majority of any one sect to oppress and persecute the rest. [James Madison, spoken at the Virginia convention on ratifying the Constitution, June 1778]

  10. It was the Universal opinion of the Century preceding the last, that Civil Government could not stand without the prop of a religious establishment; and that the Christian religion itself, would perish if not supported by the legal provision for its clergy. The experience of Virginia conspiciously corroboates the disproof of both opinions. The Civil Government, tho' bereft of everything like an associated hierarchy, possesses the requisite stability and performs its functions with complete success; whilst the number, the industry, and the morality of the priesthood, and the devotion of the people have been manifestly increased by the TOTAL SEPARATION OF THE CHURCH FROM THE STATE. [James Madison, as quoted in Robert L. Maddox: Separation of Church and State; Guarantor of Religious Freeedom]

  11. Whilst we assert for ourselves a freedom to embrace, to profess and observe the Religion which we believe to be of divine origin, we cannot deny equal freedom to those whose minds have not yet yielded to the evidence which has convinced us. If this freedom be abused, it is an offense against God, not against man:To God, therefore, not to man, must an account of it be rendered. [James Madison, according to Leonard W. Levy, Treason Against God: A History of the Offense of Blasphemy, New York: Schocken Books, 1981, p. xii.]

  12. The number, the industry, and the morality of the priesthood, and the devotion of the people have been manifestly increased by the total separation of the church from the state. [James Madison, 1819, in Boston, Why The Religious Right is Wrong about the Separation of Church and State]

  13. The Civil Government, though bereft of everything like an associated hierarchy, posesses the requisite stability, and performs its functions with complete success, whilst the number, the industry, and the morality of the priesthood, and devotion of the people, have been manifestly increased by the total separation of the church from the state. [James Madison in a letter to Robert Walsh, March 2, 1819]

  14. Strongly guarded... is the separation between religion and government in the Constitution of the United States.

  15. Strongly guarded as is the separation between Religion & Govt in the Constitution of the United States the danger of encroachment by Ecclesiastical Bodies, may be illustrated by precedents already furnished in their short history [ttempts where religious bodies had already tried to encroach on the government]. [James Madison, Detached Memoranda, 1820]

  16. Who does not see that the same authority which can establish Christianity, in exclusion of all other religions, may establish with the same ease any particular sect of Christians, in exclusion of all other sects?

  17. (15) Because finally, the equal right of every citizen to the free exercise of his religion according to the dictates of conscience is held by the same tenure with all our other rights. If we recur to its origin, it is equally the gift of nature; if we weigh its importance, it cannot be less dear to us; if we consult the Declaration of Rights which pertain to the good people of Virginia, as the basic and foundation of government, it is enumerated with equal solemnity, or rather studied emphasis. [James Madison, Section 15 of A Memorial and Remonstrance, June 20, 1785, frequently misquoted to imply religion as the basis of gov't]

  18. We hold it for a fundamental and undeniable truth that religion, or the duty which we owe our Creator, and the manner of discharging it, can be directed only by reason and conviction, not by force or violence. The religion, then, of every man must be left to the conviction and conscience of every man: and that it is the right of every man to exercise it as these may dictate. [James Madison, Memorial and Remonstrance to the Assemby of Virginia]

  19. ...several of the first presidents, including Jefferson and Madison, generally refused to issue public prayers, despite importunings to do so. Under pressure, Madison relented in the War Of 1812, but held to his belief that chaplains shouldn't be appointed to the military or be allowed to open Congress. [Richard Shenkman, I Love Paul Revere, Whether He Rode Or Not]

  20. Religious bondage shackles and debilitates the mind and unfits it for every noble enterprize [sic], every expanded prospect. [James Madison, in a letter to William Bradford, April 1,1774, as quoted by Edwin S. Gaustad, Faith of Our Fathers: Religion and the New Nation, San Francisco:Harper & Row, 1987, p. 37]

  21. No distinction seems to be more obvious than that between spiritual and temporal matters. Yet whenever they have been made objects of Legislation, they have clashed and contended with each other, till one or the other has gained the supremacy. [James Madison in a letter to Thomas Jefferson Oct-Nov 1787]

  22. To the Baptist Churches on Neal's Greek on Black Creek, North Carolina I have received, fellow-citizens, your address, approving my objection to the Bill containing a grant of public land to the Baptist Church at Salem Meeting House, Mississippi Territory. Having always regarded the practical distinction between Religion and Civil Government as essential to the purity of both, and as guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States, I could not have otherwise discharged my duty on the occasion which presented itself [James Madison, Letter to Baptist Churches in North Carolina, June 3, 1811]

  23. The purpose of separation of church and state is to keep forever from these shores the ceaseless strife that has soaked the soil of Europe in blood for centuries. [James Madison, 1803? Origin questionable]

  24. The experience of the United States is a happy disproof of the error so long rooted in the unenlightened minds of well-meaning Christians, as well as in the corrupt hearts of persecuting usurpers, that without a legal incorporation of religious and civil polity, neither could be supported. A mutual independence is found most friendly to practical Religion, to social harmony, and to political prosperity. [James Madison, Letter to F.L. Schaeffer, Dec 3, 1821]

  25. Chaplainships of both Congress and the armed services were established sixteen years before the First Amendment was adopted. It would have been fatuous folly for anybody to stir a major controversy over a minor matter before the meaning of the amendment had been threshed out in weightier matters. But Madison did foresee the danger that minor deviations from the constitutional path would deepen into dangerous precedents. He took care of one of them by his veto [in 1811] of the appropriation for a Baptist church. Others he dealt with in his "Essay on Monopolies," unpublished until 1946. Here is what he wrote: "Is the appointment of Chaplains to the two Houses of Congress consistent with the Constitution, and with the pure principle of religious freedom? In strictness the answer on both points must be in the negative. The Constitution of the U. S. forbids everything like an establishment of a national religion. The law appointing Chaplains establishes a religious worship for the national representatives, to be performed by Ministers of religion, elected by a majority of them, and these are to be paid out of the national taxes. Does this not involve the principle of a national establishment ... ?" The appointments, he said, were also a palpable violation of equal rights. Could a Catholic clergyman ever hope to be appointed a Chaplain? "To say that his religious principles are obnoxious or that his sect is small, is to lift the veil at once and exhibit in its naked deformity the doctrine that religious truth is to be tested by numbers, or that the major sects have a right to govern the minor." The problem, said the author of the First Amendment, was how to prevent "this step beyond the landmarks of power [from having] the effect of a legitimate precedent." Rather than let that happen, it would "be better to apply to it the legal aphorism de minimis non curat lex [the law takes no account of trifles]." Or, he said (likewise in Latin), class it with faults that result from carelessness or that human nature could scarcely avoid." "Better also," he went on, "to disarm in the same way, the precedent of Chaplainships for the army and navy, than erect them into a political authority in matters of religion." ... The deviations from constitutional principles went further: "Religious proclamations by the Executive recommending thanksgivings and fasts are shoots from the same root with the legislative acts reviewed. Altho' recommendations only, they imply a religious agency, making no part of the trust delegated to political rulers." (Irving Brant, The Bill of Rights: Its Origin and Meaning, Indianapolis: Bobbs-Merrill Company, Inc., 1965, pp. 423-424. Brant gives the source of "Essay on Monopolies" as Elizabeth Fleet, "Madison's Detatched Memoranda," William & Mary Quarterly, Third series: Vol. III, No. 4 [October, 1946], pp. 554-562.)
George Washington, Article 11, Treaty of Tripoli.
Washington wrote it and signed it, Congress ratified it during Adams' term, and then Adams signed it.

ARTICLE 11.

As the government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian Religion,-as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion or tranquility of Musselmen,-and as the said States never have entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mehomitan nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.

Thomas Jefferson:

To messers. Nehemiah Dodge, Ephraim Robbins, & Stephen S. Nelson, a committee of the Danbury Baptist association in the state of Connecticut.

Gentlemen

The affectionate sentiments of esteem and approbation which you are so good as to express towards me, on behalf of the Danbury Baptist association, give me the highest satisfaction. my duties dictate a faithful and zealous pursuit of the interests of my constituents, & in proportion as they are persuaded of my fidelity to those duties, the discharge of them becomes more and more pleasing.

Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should "make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof," thus building a wall of separation between Church & State. Adhering to this expression of the supreme will of the nation in behalf of the rights of conscience, I shall see with sincere satisfaction the progress of those sentiments which tend to restore to man all his natural rights, convinced he has no natural right in opposition to his social duties.

I reciprocate your kind prayers for the protection & blessing of the common father and creator of man, and tender you for yourselves & your religious association, assurances of my high respect & esteem.

Th Jefferson
Jan. 1. 1802.

*********************************

Is uniformity attainable? Millions of innocent men, women, and children, since the introduction of Christianity, have been burnt, tortured, fined, imprisoned; yet we have not advanced one inch towards uniformity. What has been the effect of coercion? To make one half the world fools and the other half hypocrites. To support roguery and error all over the earth. (Thomas Jefferson, Notes on Virginia, 1782; from George Seldes, ed., The Great Quotations, Secaucus, New Jersey: Citadel Press, 1983, p. 363.)

"I know," Jefferson had written, ... "that Gouverneur Morris, who pretended to be in his [George Washington's] secrets & believed himself to be so, has often told me that Genl. Washington believed no more of that system [Christianity] than he himself did." (Paul F. Boller, George Washington & Religion, Dallas: Southern Methodist University Press, 1963, p. 85. Jefferson's comments were written in his journal, Anas, in February, 1800, according to Boller, p. 80.)

I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibit the free exercise thereof, thus building a wall of separation between church and state. (Thomas Jefferson, as President, in a letter to the Baptists of Danbury, Connecticut, 1802; from George Seldes, ed., The Great Quotations, Secaucus, New Jersey: Citadel Press, 1983, p. 369)

But a short time elapsed after the death of the great reformer [Jesus] of the Jewish religion, before his principles were departed from by those who professed to be his special servants, and perverted into an engine for enslaving mankind, and aggrandizing their oppressors in Church and State. (Thomas Jefferson, in a letter to Samuel Kercheval, 1810; from George Seldes, ed., The Great Quotations, Secaucus, New Jersey: Citadel Press, 1983, p. 370)

History I believe furnishes no example of a priest-ridden people maintaining a free civil government. This marks the lowest grade of ignorance, of which their political as well as religious leaders will always avail themselves for their own purpose. (Thomas Jefferson, in a letter to Baron von Humboldt, 1813; from George Seldes, ed., The Great Quotations, Secaucus, New Jersey: Citadel Press, 1983, p. 370)
**** And no better example of 'the lowest grade of ignorance than our current Prezidunce ***

The clergy, by getting themselves established by law and ingrafted into the machine of government (*** can you say, "Faith-based initiatives"??), have been a very formidable engine against the civil and religious rights of man. (Thomas Jefferson, as quoted by Saul K. Padover in Thomas Jefferson on Democracy, New York, 1946, p. 165, according to Albert Menendez and Edd Doerr, compilers, The Great Quotations on Religious Liberty, Long Beach, CA: Centerline Press, 1991, p. 48.)

In every country and every age, the priest has been hostile to liberty. He is always in alliance with the despot, abetting his abuses in return for protection to his own. It is easier to acquire wealth and power by this combination than by deserving them, and to effect this, they have perverted the purest religion ever preached to man into mystery and jargon, unintelligible to all mankind, and therefore the safer for their purposes. (Thomas Jefferson, in a letter to Horatio Spofford, 1814; from George Seldes, ed., The Great Quotations, Secaucus, New Jersey: Citadel Press, 1983, p. 371)

A professorship of Theology should have no place in our institution [the University of Virginia]. (Thomas Jefferson, letter to Thomas Cooper, October 7, 1814. From Gorton Carruth and Eugene Ehrlich, eds., The Harper Book of American Quotations, New York: Harper & Row, 1988, p. 492.)

On tax-exemptions for churches:

I would call your attention to the importance of correcting an evil that, if permitted to continue, will probably lead to great trouble in our land before the close of the Nineteenth century. It is the acquisition of vast amounts of untaxed church property.... In a growing country, where real estate enhances so rapidly with time as in the United States, there is scarcely a limit to the wealth that may be acquired by corporations, religious or otherwise, if allowed to retain real estate without taxation. The contemplation of so vast a property as here alluded to, without taxation, may lead to sequestration without constitutional authority, and through blood. I would suggest the taxation of all property equally, whether church or corporation. (Ulysses S. Grant, 18th U.S. President [1869-1877], Message to Congress, December 7, 1875; Congressional Record, Vol. 4, part 7, page 175; from George Seldes, ed., The Great Quotations, Secaucus, New Jersey: Citadel Press, 1983, p. 288)

Oh, there is SO much more.

I'm not against religion; I'm against religion in my government, for the government is the government of ALL the people, not just Xians. Faith-based initiatives are nothing more than creeping theocracy, and the worst kind of dictatorship; God makes a very despotic ruler.

Build A Safer Bridge

What has George W. Bush, Fearless Cheerleader-In-Chief, done for you lately?

Are the roads you drive on smooth and free of ruts or potholes?

Can you cross a bridge without cringing internally from trepidation that it might collapse?

Are you able to visit New Orleans and not shudder with disgust at the snail’s pace restoration?

(You might be one of the displaced hundreds of thousands who cannot return to your home after two long years.)

Can you fill the tank of your motor vehicle for less than $40?

Do you have more buying power now than during the last century?

Are you working more for less disposable income?

Do you still have a job?

(Bush apologists, usually millionaires, on the Right regularly recite the talking points that eight million jobs have been created since 2001. Bullocks! All that rhetoric means is most of the 12 million or so who have been booted from their livelihoods ran out of time to collect unemployment insurance; those who have found re-employment were often forced to take positions far below the stature and wage level of jobs they’d lost.)

Can you afford to take your family on a vacation to Disneyworld?

Can you afford any kind of substantial family vacation?

When was the last time you ate steak – real, quality cuts such as T-bone or prime sirloin?

How long has it been since you didn’t look over your shoulder to see if anyone was watching?

When did you last speak openly about your true feelings, lest the wrong ears hear your opinions?

How many children will get left behind due to imbecilic education programs endorsed by a "C" student (bearing in mind that this "C" was bought, not earned)?

How many more pot smokers have to be incarcerated simply for enjoying one of nature’s simple pleasures?

When will the nationwide crime statistics be significantly reduced?

How much of your tax contributions can you honestly say have gone to fix problems within the U.S?

How long before you can travel abroad without claiming to be Canadian for fear of reprisals from those who have grown to hate us through the madness of our Little Dictator?

How long before the Chicago Cubs win the World Series? (Oops! We can’t blame that on Lame Dubya, just the debacle that was Sammy Sosa.)

How many brave Americans have died or worse in Iraq and Afghanistan?

How many Iraqis and Afghanis have died or worse?

How long must we tolerate these insane policies of giving to the richest and taking from everyone else?

When will the truth come out regarding the complicity of this Regime Fascista with the events of Sept. 11, 2001?

The bottom line is that George W. Bush, Dark Lord the Dick Cheney, Herr Oberst (in absentia) Karl Rove, Condoliar Rice, "Gonzo" Gonzales, Paul "New World Order" Wolfowitz, Donald "Rummy" Rumsfeld and the rest of the cabal never had any intention of actually doing anything for America or its citizens.

These schlemiels have destroyed our beautiful Nation; they have, since stealing the 2000 election, systematically torn our home to shreds.

Meanwhile, they’ve all grown rich beyond belief.

And now, King George XLIII himself has proclaimed that he shall become richer still after leaving the White House by charging exorbitant fees for speaking engagements.

That is, if he and Frost Lady Laura, Queen of Cerebral Stultification, ever move out of the White House…

I’ll grant that the U.S. Government has a long history of playing dirty pool around the Planet. That’s survival, yet it cannot be disputed that prior to Jan. 21, 2001, we had contributed more to World peace and prosperity than any other nation in history.

We’ve been told time and again by reliable sources that George W. Bush and his cronies are power-mad zealots of their own mindset.

They themselves have repeatedly told us that none of them give a damn what the majority of Americans want (Georgie re-iterated that numbing compunction just this past Labor Day with his pep rally in Iraq).

This schmuck has shown absolutely no willingness to work in concert with a legally-elected, opposition party Congress, regularly blaming Democrats for hindering progress.

George W. Bush doesn’t care one iota about the average person.

And all he’s ever done for you and me is lie, cheat, and kill innocents.

King George loves to quote former presidents, and compare his ever-expanding list of malfeasance to popular events in American history – he always cites occurrences even the least aware fourth grade student would know — twisted all out of skew for his own self-serving justification.

In the meantime, he’s trashed everything good about America while making life here a virtual nightmare.

"Ask not what your Country can do for you, but what you can do for your Country."

We know Fearless Leader loves to make the leap that he is in the same league as John F. Kennedy, yet it’s impossible for this stubborn, addled Carpetbagger to live up to even the simplest of JFK’s suggestions.

What can we all do for our Country?

Insist that this illegal Regime Fascista be impeached… stop these blackguards now!

Immediately thereafter, shut down all U.S. operations in Iraq.

Then, let’s see to that George W. Bush and every one of those who have broken so many laws against our Constitution and mankind be sentenced to the long years in prison they all deserve!

Shalom, Dear Friend.

2 reason to be VERY careful tomorrow

Windows Update's Sneaky Updates

Joe Wilcox
Joe Wilcox

My eWEEK Labs colleague Andrew Garcia has independently confirmed a report that will appear in tomorrow's Windows Secrets newsletter: Windows Update is fetching and installing some updates without end users' consent.

Windows Secrets contacted eWEEK and Microsoft Watch earlier this afternoon about the discovery. Tomorrow, Windows Secrets' Scott Dunn will report that Windows Update has started "altering files on users' systems without displaying any dialog box to request permission. The only altered files that have been reported to date are 18 small executables used by WU itself. Microsoft is patching these files silently, even if auto-updates have been disabled on a particular PC."

The Windows Secrets story can be found here, on Sept. 13.

The stealth updates do not appear to affect PCs using WSUS (Windows Server Update Services) the same way as those using Microsoft Update/Windows Update. Typically, Windows would give some notification before installing updates and, presumably, install nothing if Windows Update is disabled. But, in testing, Dunn found that Microsoft was updating Windows XP and Vista systems even when automatic updating is disabled.

"Microsoft is bypassing the normal automatic update control," Dunn told me this afternoon. "The problem is that users don't know that."

"From the perspective of businesses, it isn't a good thing," said Andrew Jaquith, Yankee Group program manager for Security Research. "Silent updates are probably against corporate policy and will definitely mess up whitelisting programs if those are installed."

Windows Stealth Updates
Windows Update starts on its own.

Dunn agreed and warned that stealth installations could undermine ongoing compatibility testing conducted by IT professionals. "To have this done behind their backs is disconcerting," he said.

We contacted Microsoft PR, but received no response before posting.

The testing conducted by Windows Secrets and eWEEK Labs uncovered the update scenario, which affects Windows XP or Vista.

Windows Vista offers four update options:

  • Install updates automatically
  • Download updates but let me choose whether to install them
  • Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them
  • Never check for updates

Windows Secrets discovered that Windows had updated files even with automatic update disabled. By comparison, eWEEK Labs found that several Windows computers set to automatically download and manually install had applied updates without end user consent. The two screen shots, supplied by eWEEK Labs, show a PC starting Windows Update and applying a patch without explicit consent. The computer had been set to manually install any updates.

The eWEEK Labs installations occurred on Aug. 23 and those for Windows Secrets on Aug. 24. Windows Secrets found that the stealth updates changed nine files on either Vista or XP, including (on both), wuapi.dll, wuauclt.exe and wups2.dll. Version of the stealth update is 7.0.6000.381.

Susan Bradley, a vocal Small Business Server MVP (Microsoft Valued Professional), said she contacted Microsoft about the apparent stealth updating but with no real explanation.

Windows Stealth Updates
Windows Update installs update without end user consent.

"I'm concerned that people are expecting that the plumbing update like this should get a yellow pop up in the corner saying 'you have updates'; it doesn't work that way," she said. "But Microsoft has indeed been less than public about this MU/WU update."

In her testing, systems with Windows Update 7.0.6000.374—the version before 7.0.6000.381—that used WSUS did not receive the stealth updates.

"However," she expressed, "that still does not reduce the issue where Microsoft has had ample time to communicate via blogs or other means as to a) what this is; b) what it is fixing; and c) the expectation of how it's doing it."

I spent about an hour this afternoon reading various forum posts about the 7.0.6000.381 update. They varied from people finding the update installed without consent to WSUS not updating some systems to version 7.0.6000.381.

Another concern is privacy. Do the stealth installations violate the Windows EULA (end user license agreement) or Microsoft's privacy policy? I took a look at the Windows Vista version of both documents this afternoon. The Vista EULA is a 14-page document. A search for terms "update" or "consent" revealed no place where I could see that users explicitly give permission to Microsoft to download and apply updates without consent.

The Windows Vista Privacy Statement states:

"To make Windows Vista work better with the Internet, some features that do not collect personal information are turned on by default. You can choose to disable these features. For details about the information collection, uses, and choice provided by a specific feature or related product or service, please click on the link provided in the list on the right."

Windows Update is not in that list, but it is in another. But I found nothing in the Windows Update Privacy Statement explicitly giving permission to update without end user consent.

"Even if there is some fine print in the EULA, they're still being very Big Brother about how they're handling it," Dunn warned.

[Editor's Note: In its newsletter, Windows Secrets used "turned off" and "disabled" to describe Windows Update's behavior. On, Sept. 13, we asked for clarification. Dunn said that Windows Secrets meant disabled, not turned off. Windows Secrets considers disabled to mean Windows Update settings two and three (see above list). A blog posted today by Nate Clinton, Microsoft's Windows Update program manger, confirms that Windows Update self-updates without user intervention when the setting is either option two or three.]

El Al has cancelled all flights to the US for the 14th and 15th.

If you go here: http://www.elal.co.il/ELAL/English/States/General/

And pick Tel Aviv and New York; - out on the 14th and back on the 19th, you'll see no flights for the 14th and 15th.

Now, pick Tel Aviv and any other city within Israel or Palestine. There are flights.

The US has a total stand-down order for the 14th for the Air Force.

A B-52H was 'outed' to be carrying nukes, on its way to Louisiana, which is the staging point for B-52s going to the Mid East.

Yesterday, Israel 'discovered' Syria had North Korean nukes that were paid for by Iran. (and the tooth fairy is coming over tonight)

Israel bomb Syria a couple of days ago, but no-one is talking.

I guess we'll see, eh?

Urgent! KLSD could be flipping anyway!!!!!!!!!!!

http://ltradio.blogspot.com/2007/09/is-klsd-flipping-anyway.html
Is KLSD flipping anyway?

Aldous Tyler at NonStop Radio claims that KLSD (1360AM) in San Diego, which for the past few weeks has been the subject of rumors regarding a pending flip, will likely drop its moderately successful progressive talk format for sports, despite the strong show of support by listeners.

From his email:

At Monday, August 27th's rally, Program Director Cliff Albert confirmed that AM 1360 KLSD was being scheduled to flip from Progressive Talk. Today, news has come down that this flip is imminent, possibly as soon as Friday! Progressives and Liberals of San Diego aren't taking this lying down.

The rally was attended by hundreds of loyal listeners as well as Bree Walker and Jon Elliot, with Stacy Taylor broadcasting live from within the rally itself!

We were listening to the Thom Hartmann Show on Air America on Friday, September 7, and were blown away when he played this tape of Richard Nixon at the 1968 Republican Convention speaking about Lyndon Johnson's failed Vietnam War.

It was a mind-boggling moment as we listened to the excerpt, because Nixon defined Johnson's losing effort in the way that the Democrats should be doing with Bush.

Do the Democratic leaders on the Hill have anything to learn from Richard Nixon? We'd be the last to think so, until we heard this tape.

We asked Thom Hartmann to write us a note setting up the short clip:

"An unpopular president [Johnson] was prosecuting an unpopular war, which was despised by more than half the American people. His political opponent [Nixon, although Nixon actually ran against Humphrey, Johnson's Vice-President] knew that the best way to take him down - and ultimately to take down his entire Party - was to simply say out loud what everybody knew to be true. To call out the President. To declare him and his war a failure. To call on the American people for truth and honesty in government, and an end to war. Here's a quick clip composite, sent along to us by a listener (I'm sorry, I don't remember whom) a year or so ago, of Richard Nixon at the 1968 Republican National Convention..."

-- Thom Hartmann in an e-mail to BuzzFlash

You must take a listen to this Nixon 1968 GOP Convention statement on Johnson's failure as a war leader. You simply must.

(Of course, Nixon lied about his "secret plan" to end the Vietnam War and expanded it into even more of a debacle, including precipitating the Khmer Rouge takeover of Cambodia as a result of Kissenger's rogue bombing of that nation. But that's another story.)

Frank Rich: It will be all 9/11 all the time this week, as the White House yet again synchronizes its drumbeating for the Iraq war with the anniversary of an attack that had nothing to do with Iraq. What happened on that Sunday five years ago is the Rosetta Stone for the administration's latest scam.

We Just Don't Get It. Bush Promised to Get Bin Laden "Dead or Alive," Cowboy Boasting Style. Then Bush Said That He Really Didn't Think About Osama Much. Shouldn't Bush be Held Accountable for Letting Osama Get Away? Bush's Mission Unaccomlplished, Unless Letting Osama Get Away and the Anthrax Terrorists are Part of the Great Game to Ensure that Fear Keeps the Republicans in Power. Naw, Don't Think Such a Thing! Man they sure nailed down EXACTLY what happened with Tim Mahoney here.
That guy has done NOTHING since going to CONgress. Well, except for being yet another DINO. He should go elope with Bill Nelson...
Rahm Emanuel is a cretin. I love how he went out of his way to take credit for the Nov. 7, '06 wins. What a pretentious bastard! Hey Rahm-rod, HOWARD DEAN's 50 STATE STRATEGY RULED AND YOU DROOLED! Dickweed fuckface dildo! And the same goes to Schumer. In addition to which, this move-the-party-to-the-center bullshit doesn't work. Progressive/liberal Dems won by FAR greater margins in '06 than did these Repuke-Lite Blue Dog "Democrats" who nearly break their jaws opening their mouths so fast to suck the GOPedophile's damn dick!!!!!! The DLC (aka "Democratic" LOSER Cockfarmers!) and the DCCC (aka "Democratic" Contemptible Conservative Cum-bubbles!) should be immediately disbanded since they are beyond corrupt and are anything BUT Democratic.

    ----- Original Message -----

The information revealed in this piece is not new, but the details provided are ample evidence for why we need to reign in people like Rahm Emanuel and Chuck Schumer. Schumer, on the Senate side engaged in the same kind of practices that Emanuel engaged in on the House side. Schumer was even caught on tape proclaiming that the Democratic leadership would no longer tolerate primary battles in competitive states and that the Leadership, not the Democratic voters, would decide whop the candidates were going to be. Specifically he pointed to our own Bob Casey whose Conservative tendencies mirror those of the House candidates backed by the DCCC. This article points out that many of the Democrats supported by Emanuel broke with the Democrats and helped pass the "Protect America Act" last month. That bill gave sweeping new surveillance powers to the Bush Administration. On the Senate side Casey also broke with the Democrats and joined with 15 other Democrats to help pass that onerous bill. It has been documented that Schumer and Ed Rendell recruited Casey and then pressured Barbara Hafer and Joe Hoeffel to withdraw as Democratic Senate candidates. Chuck Pennacchio, who refused to withdraw, was virtually ignored by the media. The national Party Leadership simply treated it as an uncontested race and the media played along. The line3 that we needed someone like Casey to beat Santorum is nonsense. Poll after poll indicated that Casey had low approval ratings and most voters knew little about him. Nearly half of the people who voted for Casey told the exit pollsters that they voted "against Santorum," not "for" Casey. Even today the polls suggest that Pennsylvanians know little about Casey, and that most neither approve nor disapprove of him, doubtless because he keeps an incredibly low profile. I contend that a ham sandwich would have beaten Santorum in 2006, and I am convinced that Casey could not have won a truly open primary race. I am not suggesting Pennacchio would have won, but a well-funded Hafer or Hoeffel would have trounced Casey in my opinion and gone on to beat Santorum by perhaps even a wider margin than Casey did. I also think Pennacchio would have done quite well in the Primary had he gotten the media attention he deserved and presumably the contributions that coverage would have generated. I believe he too would have trounced Santorum. Thanks to Chuck Schumer we will never know.

Schumer was also instrumental in forcing an up-and-coming Democratic progressive woman with growing grass-roots support to quit the Senate race in Tennessee in favor of the very conservative Harold Ford who went on to lose and now heads the right-leaning Democratic Leadership Counsel (DLC).

This kind of interference with our Democratic process by the Democratic Leadership must stop.

Democratic House Officials Recruited Wealthy Conservatives
    By Matt Renner
    t r u t h o u t | Report

    Thursday 06 September 2007

This letter sent from then DCCC Head Rahm Emanuel to Democratic House hopeful Jan Schneider underscores a DCCC policy of remaining "neutral" in primary races. Schneider soon came to doubt the letter's sincerity.

It was the day after Christmas 2005 and Christine Cegelis sat alone at her dining room table, trying to figure out how to tell her campaign volunteers that she was going to drop out of the 2006 Democratic primary .

The next evening she was to meet with friends and colleagues who had organized around her candidacy for the House of Representatives in the 6th District of Illinois. Her volunteers had walked block after block of the suburban district and spent hours making phone calls to solicit donations and promote the campaign. Many of these people had been at Cegelis's side during her 2004 campaign and witnessed the fruits of their labor when long-time Republican Representative Henry Hyde decided to retire instead of facing Cegelis again in 2006. This was their shot to have a national impact.

But pressure coming from the national Democratic Party was too great. The Democrats had found a challenger for Cegelis, an Iraq veteran named Tammy Duckworth. Contributions were pouring into the opposing campaign and Duckworth was shuttled into the national media spotlight. Cegelis began receiving calls from Democratic members of Congress informing her that they were planning to support Duckworth.

Some of Cegelis's own paid campaign staff implored her to drop out; and she had every reason to listen. She had only $40,000 in the bank, her campaign manager had given up on the campaign and given her office staff two weeks' paid vacation without Cegelis' permission, and her media coordinator had recently quit. Rumor had it that Illinois Senator Barack Obama was going to star in television commercials for Duckworth - star power the Cegelis campaign could never match.

The next day when she sat down in her campaign office with her twelve closest volunteers, Cegelis prepared herself to admit defeat. She laid out the worst-case scenario: The Democratic Party was willing to spend millions of dollars to defeat her in the primary. If she did manage to beat Duckworth, the party would not help her in the general election, leaving the campaign on its own to face a Republican candidate who was hand picked by the national Republican Party.

Instead of agreeing to quit, every one of her volunteers looked her in the eye and said, "We are here to fight."

In May 2004, a former candidate for the New York State Legislature named Cynthia Pooler founded November Victories and Democrat Unity, online forums for new candidates who were running for Congress as Democrats.

"Before you knew it, candidates started talking about the difficulties they were having with the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and the Democratic leadership," Pooler said.

According to Democratic candidates who ran for House of Representative seats in 2006, Rahm Emanuel, then head of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, took sides during the Democratic primary elections, favoring conservative candidates, including former Republicans, and sidelining candidates who were running in favor of withdrawal from Iraq .

Appointed as head of the DCCC by then-House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, Emanuel spearheaded the Democratic Party effort to regain control of the House of Representatives during the 2006 election cycle. Emanuel claimed credit for the Democratic takeover and was promoted to chairman of the Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in the House. But his election tactics have been criticized by progressive activists and former Congressional candidates.

According to his critics, Emanuel played kingmaker by financially supporting his favored candidates during primary contests with other Democrats. His critics say that this interference was in direct contradiction of a DCCC policy to "remain neutral" in party primaries.

According to Doug Thornell, spokesperson for the DCCC, "The policy of the DCCC is not to get involved in primaries, unless there is an unusual circumstance that demands it. I cannot speculate on what those circumstances might be. The majority of these cases [2008 primaries] will be left up to the voters on the ground. Meddling hasn't taken place this cycle, and for the most part last cycle. That isn't an accurate way to describe what happened. We are cognizant of having local support for our candidates."

Howard Dean, chairman of the Democratic National Committee, would not comment on the DCCC's alleged interference.

However, a source close to the DNC indicated that there was disagreement between Dean and Emanuel over election tactics. In his recent book, "The Thumpin'," Naftali Bendavid, a journalist who spent months inside the DCCC operation and at Emanuel's side, reported a heated conversation between Dean, Emanuel and Senator Charles Schumer (D-New York) regarding election strategies of the DCCC and the DNC. At the time, Dean was focusing on helping local organizations across the country to mobilize their communities to support Democrats. Emanuel wanted to focus the resources of the national party on specific races that were the most likely to be competitive for Democrats. According to Bendavid, Emanuel said to Dean, "You're nowhere, Howard. Your field plan is not a field plan. That's fucking bullshit ... I know your field plan - it doesn't exist. I've gone around the country with these races. I've seen your people. There is no plan, Howard."

How Emanuel came to his decisions about which candidates to support against Democratic opponents is known only to Emanuel and his staff. Emanuel declined direct comment on this story. But an examination of individual races reveals a pattern of financial and political support for wealthy conservative candidates and an assault on their grassroots-supported opponents who were running on platforms that included a full withdrawal of US forces from Iraq .

Illinois 's 6th District: Christine Cegelis vs. Tammy Duckworth

A well-documented instance of interference by the DCCC during a Democratic primary occurred during the contest between Christine Cegelis and Tammy Duckworth. Cegelis, a strong proponent of withdrawal from Iraq, encountered unexpected and effective opposition from the DCCC.

Cegelis challenged former 16-term Republican Congressman Henry Hyde in 2004. An information technology specialist, Cegelis had no previous experience in politics, but decided to face off against an entrenched incumbent Republican. Her 2004 campaign, run on a meager budget with mostly volunteer staff, was able to create a tightly knit grassroots infrastructure in the Illinois 6th Congressional District. In 2004, Cegelis received just over 44 percent of the vote. The 82- year-old Hyde decided to retire rather than face another reelection campaign in 2006. This seat became a top target for the Democratic leaders and a microcosm of a much larger battle for the future of the Democratic Party.

Emanuel, himself a congressman from the neighboring 5th District of Illinois, apparently tried to recruit six different candidates to run against Cegelis. According to Kevin Spidel, campaign manager for the Cegelis campaign, all of Emanuel's attempts failed because the potential candidates "all said 'hell no!' They knew the resentment they would face. If you were in the district, you knew how much Cegelis was loved. She built her own machine."

Eventually, Emanuel found a candidate who lived just outside the district, Tammy Duckworth. Duckworth, a helicopter pilot who was severely injured in combat in Iraq, was convinced to run against Cegelis by Emanuel and two Democratic heavyweights, Illinois Senators Dick Durbin and Barack Obama.

Duckworth was not a proponent of a deadline for withdrawal from Iraq . The Los Angeles Times, quoting Duckworth, reported that she believed the military should not "'simply pull up stakes' in Iraq because it would 'create a security vacuum' and 'risk allowing [Iraq ] ... to become a base for terrorists.'" According to the same article, Duckworth supported "a pullout of US forces on a schedule based on the training of Iraq's armed forces."

Expedited withdrawal from Iraq was a main plank of the Cegelis campaign platform.

According to Bendavid's book, "Duckworth quickly became the center of a nasty fight over Emanuel's tactics." According to Bendavid, "Emanuel, Durbin, and other Democratic leaders did not believe Cegelis was working hard enough or raising sufficient money ... [Emanuel, Durbin, and other Democratic leaders] used their clout to persuade Duckworth to run and to direct money, attention, and endorsements her way."

Tim Bagwell, a grassroots activist and Cegelis campaigner, said that Duckworth was "hot-wired" into the national media and fund-raising circuit by the DCCC. George Stephanopoulos, who served in the Clinton administration with Emanuel, interviewed Duckworth on his Sunday morning ABC News program, elevating her to national prominence.

According to Spidel, the Cegelis campaign was prevented from accessing Democratic fund-raising and Political Action Committee lists held by the DCCC. Cegelis said that many of the potential donors she contacted had been instructed by the DCCC not to give her campaign money. She felt that she was locked out.

"To tell you I didn't take it personally is wrong," Cegelis said, adding, "this was the wrong way to choose a representative. It is wrong of parties to exclude people from the primary elections. The primary is the time for the people to choose who is on the ballot; those decisions should not be made in back rooms."

Bendavid goes on to quote Emanuel saying of Cegelis, "If she would only work as hard as she would goddamn whine.... She's the only one who says, 'What can you do for me?" adding, "[Cegelis] could absolutely win. She's just not doing it."

Emanuel's assertion about Cegelis's work ethic was hotly contested by members of her campaign.

Cegelis said that she woke up at 4 a.m. every day to go to train stations in the district to shake hands with commuters during the morning rush hour. Then around 9 a.m. she would get on the phone in her campaign headquarters to try and bring in contributions. She would walk to a volunteer's house near her headquarters, where she would nap on the couch from 4:30-6 p.m. After dinner she would get into her car and drive to different neighborhoods for "Coffee with Christine," small gatherings in the homes of constituents of the 6th District where neighbors would gather to share their ideas with Cegelis.

According to Spidel, Emanuel worked against Cegelis because of her support for withdrawal from Iraq and her outspoken opposition to "free trade" legislation like the Central American Free Trade Agreement. "In 2006 the DCCC was Emanuel's personal weapon. He executed based on his needs. He needed votes on 'free trade' legislation that he supports, and he knew that [Cegelis] was one of the Democrats who would vote her own way," Spidel said.

Spidel said that Emanuel worked to defeat Cegelis because she represented a threat to the established Illinois Democrats and because she did not seek their approval before running. "Chicago politics is a family. If you didn't go into the city and kiss certain rings, you were not given certain resources like Political Action Committee lists and donor lists. Cegelis' success hurt some egos and the party didn't like their lack of control," Spidel said.

While Cegelis maintained strong volunteer support, the DCCC-backed Duckworth campaign spent close to $1 million in the primary . The race was extremely close, with Duckworth receiving 44 percent to Cegelis's 40 percent.

"Cegelis was the reason the district was in play in the first place," Spidel said. "If a candidate was able to grow a serious grassroots campaign, especially in a district that historically favored Republicans, it seems illogical to try and challenge it from outside the district. If a Congressional district was completely off the radar before 2004 and the only reason the DCCC was looking at it as a pickup opportunity in 2006 was because of the work a grassroots candidate did, to have come in and discredited the grassroots candidate undermined the entire effort. The DCCC just threw their money away."

Duckworth was beaten in the general election by a right-wing Republican, former State Senator Peter Roskam. One of Roskam's main criticisms of Duckworth was the fact that her home was not located in the district. Roskam won with 51 percent of the vote to Duckworth's 49 percent.

Florida 's 13th District: Jan Schneider vs. Christine Jennings

Dr. Jan Schneider, a graduate of Yale Law School and a Ph.D in political science, ran as the Democratic challenger in Florida's 13th Congressional District against Republican Katherine Harris in 2004. In 2004, Schneider was the most competitive Democratic challenger in Florida, garnering 45 percent of the vote against Harris, but Harris won.

Harris vacated the seat in 2006 in order to run for the Senate. Harris' departure was an opportunity for Schneider and her locally mobilized campaign to win a seat for the Democratic Party.

Schneider was an outspoken critic of the war in Iraq and made the war a central issue in her campaigns. Schneider said recently that she "supports the withdrawal of United States troops from Iraq to begin within the next 120 days," a plan approved by the United States House of Representatives in July of this year.

Schneider faced a primary challenge in 2006 from Christine Jennings, a former Republican banker and businesswoman. According to a candidate information page hosted by The Sarasota Herald Tribune, "Jennings doesn't have a specific direction for conducting the war and says she needs more information." Regarding the withdrawal legislation passed by the House in July 2007, Jennings said that she was "not sure whether she would have voted for it." According to Congressional Quarterly, "many Democratic officials thought Jennings 's business background would make her a more viable general election contender."

Schneider defeated Jennings by nine percentage points in the 2004 primary .

Schneider became concerned about possible interference from the DCCC during the 2006 primary because, according to Schneider, Jennings had a very wealthy Democratic contributor on her side. Frank Brunckhorst III, a well-known donor to both the Democratic Party and to powerful Democratic members of Congress from Florida, accompanied Jennings to the Democratic National Convention in 2004.

Schneider sat down with Emanuel in 2005 to address her concern that Jennings might get preferential treatment from the DCCC during the primary . According to Schneider, Emanuel told her that the DCCC's policy was not to choose sides during primaries. On May 26, 2005, Emanuel wrote a letter to Schneider reiterating the policy of the DCCC: "You expressed concerns about the DCCC getting involved in party primaries. While our preference is to avoid having them, our policy is to remain neutral," stated the letter, signed by Emanuel.

Schneider claims that Emanuel broke this policy during the 2006 primary race. "Emanuel caused the Schneider campaign to be removed from the DCCC website and circulated solicitations for contributions to Democratic candidates indicating that there was no [Democratic] primary in the Florida 13th," according to a memorandum Schneider prepared.

Schneider blames the DCCC for misleading Senator John Kerry (D- Massachusetts) into thinking that Jennings was running in the primary without any competition from within the party. Kerry gave a $1,000 donation to the Jennings campaign, which was publicized by Jennings as an endorsement. When Schneider confronted Kerry about this donation, Kerry apologized and said that he donated based on assertions by Emanuel that the race was "a targeted race with no primary ," and that he never meant to interfere with an intra-party contest, according to Schneider. Congresswoman Shelly Berkley (D- Nevada) says that the DCCC sent her a letter asking her to contribute to races where there was no primary . The letter listed the Florida 13th as a race with only one Democrat pursuing the party's nomination.

Appearing on the satirical comedy central program, "The Colbert Report," in May 2006, Schneider expressed her frustration with the Democratic Party. "I'm pretty disgusted with both parties these days - the Republicans for what they stand for and the Democrats for what they don't."

In 2006, Jennings received 62 percent of the primary vote and defeated Schneider. Jennings went on to lose to Republican Vern Buchanan by 373 votes in a district with electronic voting machines that did not produce a verifiable paper record. More than 18,000 ballots recorded no votes for either Buchanan or Jennings . An election challenge filed by Jennings is making its way through the House Administration Committee.

Cegelis and Schneider, outspoken anti-war candidates who ran competitive campaigns in 2004 against incumbent Republicans, were challenged and defeated from within their own party in 2006. Both races ultimately ended in extremely close losses for the Democratic Party.

California 's 11th District: Jerry McNerney vs. Steve Filson

One grassroots campaign that made withdrawal from Iraq a central issue was able to defeat a DCCC-backed candidate despite direct interference during the intra-party primary.

Democrat Jerry McNerney, an engineer and wind energy expert, had previously challenged incumbent Republican Richard Pombo in 2004. With a late start and little organization, McNerney's 2004 campaign only received 39 percent of the vote in a district that voted 45 percent for Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry. McNerney's effort put the 11th District back into play, and his campaign was revamped in order to mount a serious challenge to Pombo in 2006.

McNerney was a strong critic of the occupation of Iraq and publicly supported Congressman John Murtha's "redeployment" plan for US combat troops serving in Iraq. According to A. J. Carrillo, campaign manager for McNerney, this position on the war made McNerney seem like a fringe candidate to Democratic leaders in Washington . "In the fall of 2005, candidates who were in favor of enforcing a timetable for withdrawal were considered 'liberals' who couldn't win in districts that trended Republican," Carrillo said.

In a move that seems to run contrary to Emanuel's stated policy that the DCCC was to "remain neutral" in primary contests, McNerney's primary opponent, Navy veteran and former Republican Steve Filson was, according to Carrillo, endorsed in the primary by the DCCC. In contrast to McNerney, Filson did not campaign in support of a timetable for withdrawal from Iraq.

According to Carrillo, Filson was on Emanuel's short list of top-tier candidates, a designation that helped steer early campaign donations to the Filson campaign. "Party insiders were calling and asking that McNerney drop out and let Filson take on Pombo," Carrillo said. According to Carrillo, when McNerney refused to step aside, the DCCC went to work on behalf of his primary opponent.

Carrillo saw DCCC press secretary Sarah Feinberg assisting the Filson campaign at a debate between the two candidates during the primary . Carrillo claims that he received word from a Congressional source that the DCCC was advising Filson's campaign on messaging and strategy. Carrillo's source leaked the information from the DCCC to the McNerney campaign.

Apparently the DCCC ordered a company that prints and distributes campaign mailings to targeted voters not to work with the McNerney campaign. According to Carrillo, he had spoken to the company and faxed them a contract, when a representative from the company called him and said that there was "a minor issue with the DCCC but it shouldn't be a problem." The next morning a company representative called back and said the company could not do business with the McNerney campaign. "The company said that they got an ultimatum from the DCCC. They did a lot of business with the DCCC, so it wasn't worth risking it all just for our campaign. We had to scramble to find another company," Carrillo said.

Despite the primary interference, McNerney did not get discouraged. "Jerry was not bitter or angry about the experience," Carrillo said, adding, "he just went out and decided to prove them all wrong. He really is Mr. Smith goes to Washington ."

The campaign received a boost from an old-school Republican, former Congressman and veteran Pete McCloskey, who came out of retirement to challenge incumbent Congressman Pombo in the Republican primary. Pombo beat McCloskey, but the fight left Pombo damaged. McCloskey, one of the authors of the Endangered Species Act, attacked Pombo for his assault on environmental protection regulations and his association with disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff. After losing the primary , McCloskey supported the McNerney campaign. McNerney ended up winning the seat with slightly more than 53 percent of the vote.

Florida 's 16th District: David Lutrin vs. Tim Mahoney

Wealthy businessman Tim Mahoney, a self-described "fundamental Christian," was recruited by the DCCC to run against then-Congressman Mark Foley in Florida 's 16th District. According to The Palm Beach Post, Mahoney switched his registration from Republican to Democrat in July of 2005. Mahoney did not support a timetable for withdrawal from Iraq.

David Lutrin, a school teacher, union activist and staunch supporter of immediate withdrawal from Iraq, decided to run against Foley before Mahoney entered the race. After Mahoney declared his candidacy, Lutrin was contacted by field organizers for the DCCC who asked him to drop out and let Mahoney run unopposed.

Lutrin said that he also met personally with Mahoney. During a three- hour breakfast meeting, Mahoney offered Lutrin a higher-paying job if he agreed to drop out of the primary. "Mahoney tried to get me to run in a different district. He offered me a job at one of his non-profit organizations where he said that I would make more than I was making as a teacher. He said I could campaign full time while working at his non-profit as long as I agreed to drop out of the race," Lutrin said. Lutrin declined the job offer.

According to Lutrin, when he refused to step aside, the DCCC shored up local political support for Mahoney. The local AFL-CIO chapter, of which Lutrin was a member, came out with an early endorsement of Mahoney's campaign. According to Lutrin, the union told him that "they would like to back a fellow union brother, but Mahoney has more money and more political support from the party." Lutrin eventually dropped out of the race when the local teachers' union decided to support Mahoney.

Before it was revealed that then-incumbent Mark Foley had engaged in sexually explicit conversations with a teenage Congressional page, Florida 's 16th district had been considered a safe seat for Republicans.

It has been reported that the DCCC knew that Foley was engaging in inappropriate communications with Congressional pages before the story made headlines. According to CNN, a Democratic House staff member sent copies of suggestive email correspondence between Foley and an teenage Congressional page to the DCCC communication director, Bill Burton, in the fall of 2005. Burton later said that he had informed Emanuel of the emails when he received them.

On October 8, 2006, Emanuel joined Republican Congressman Adam Putnam (R-Florida) on ABC's "This Week," hosted by George Stephanopoulos to discuss Foley's conduct. Emanuel dodged multiple questions about when he became aware of the misconduct by Foley. Democrats were decrying the lack of action taken by then-Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert on the issue.

The exact date that the DCCC became aware of the Foley emails that resulted in his losing the election and the exact date that the DCCC's recruitment of Tim Mahoney to switch parties and run as a Democrat against Foley are not yet known at the time of this writing.

Mahoney won the seat in 2006 and joined The Blue Dog Coalition.

    The New Democratic Majority

While Emanuel is given credit for turning power over to the Democratic Party in the House of Representatives, the majority is fractured.

Many of the candidates that Emanuel helped elect have joined with a group of self-styled conservative Blue Dog Democrats and have cast key votes with Republicans and stymied Democratic efforts to end the occupation of Iraq and the Bush administration's warrantless wiretapping program.

Thirteen of the Democratic members of the House elected in 2006 joined The Blue Dog Coalition; a group that, according to its spokesperson, has no official stance on withdrawal from Iraq or the president's warrantless wiretapping program. However, 30 out of 47 of the Blue Dog members broke with the majority of Democrats and cast votes in favor of the recent Protect America Act, a bill that greatly expanded the power of the executive branch to spy on Americans. The caucus also broke with the majority of Democrats when 40 of the Blue Dog members voted to continue funding the occupation of Iraq without a timetable for withdrawal.

In an interview shortly after his election, freshman Blue Dog member Tim Mahoney told the Charlotte Sun, a local paper from his district, that he attended a meeting with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and told her "The president should be free to maintain troops in Iraq, if the purpose is to thwart terrorism."

The Bill of Rights - A Public Service Announcement

Feel free to print this and put them in every state building somewhere everyone can see them, instead of the goddamn "10 Commandments". Or staple them to telephone poles!

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Bill_of_Rights

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Constitution

It seems some of us have forgotten the rights we have under the Constitution of the United States. It is beneficial therefore, from time to time, to revisit and recall the rights we granted ourselves as a nation, and as a people.

These are the rules we agreed to live by.

These are the rules we agreed to defend, and to die for if necessary.

These are the rights we granted to the least of us, and to the greatest of us.

And these are the ten most important limits we placed on our government, to ensure that the people have the right right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

    ____________________________

    The Conventions of a number of the States having, at the time of adopting the Constitution, expressed a desire, in order to prevent misconstruction or abuse of its powers, that further declaratory and restrictive clauses should be added, and as extending the ground of public confidence in the Government will best insure the beneficent ends of its institution;

Resolved, by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America, in Congress assembled, two-thirds of both Houses concurring, that the following articles be proposed to the Legislatures of the several States, as amendments to the Constitution of the United States; all or any of which articles, when ratified by three-fourths of the said Legislatures, to be valid to all intents and purposes as part of the said Constitution, namely:

    Amendment V

No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a grand jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the militia, when in actual service in time of war or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.

    Amendment VI

In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the state and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the assistance of counsel for his defense.

Train Wreck Of The Week Sept. 8

    http://www.theinternationalforecaster.com/trainwreck.php?Id=187

The police state, under the guise of terrorism and security, is expanding at an unprecedented clip, despite growing public outcry and concern about barriers to information. The government hides behind a security shield and the public is totally exposed. The cost of this secrecy to taxpayers last year was $8.2 billion. For every dollar spent declassifying documents, the government spends $185 to conceal documents.

This concealment and deception expedited the process for businesses to have 26% of contracts at No-Bid, for $107.5 billion just for last year.

Our president has issued at least 151 signing statements challenging 1,149 provisions of laws passed by Congress. Before 2000, presidents had signed fewer than 600 statements in 211 years.

Then there is the use of the state secrets privilege. Bush has used it 38 times. It was only used 59 times over the previous 23 years.

What we have is a secret fascist government. It is fine to have secrets and classification but this is pure abuse. We do not hear any objections from Congress or the Democrats, as there are things they’d like to hide as well. What has prompted this is that the public is getting more active requesting 21.4 million requests under the Freedom of Information Act versus 1.9 million just seven years before. Fifty-three of 57 agencies are backlogged for fulfilling requests. Twelve agencies have requests pending ten years or more, certainly well past the 20-day deadline. Needless to say, it is a stall.

The Fed continues to tell us the credit crunch will have little impact outside of real estate. They must think we are all morons. In the Fed’s Beige Book, four of 12 districts reported that their economies continued to grow. They failed to tell us the conditions in the other eight regions. They evidentially are not interested in full disclosure, only reflective disclosure. The report is full of lies and omissions and it is enough to make you puke.

Planned layoffs rocketed in August as the housing slowdown and subprime mortgage debacle led to record job cuts in the financial sector. Announced layoffs surged 85% to 79,459 in August from 42,897 in July. Fifty percent came from the financial sector at 35,752.

The first truly global bubble in asset pricing has broken and unfortunately it is accompanied by a credit crisis.

The OECD says, “The US economy faces a significant economic slowdown that should lead the Fed to ease interest rates. The housing sector is set to exert a longer- and more-potent-than-expected drag and confidence has weakened in the US. As a result GDP growth is projected to fall distinctly below potential during the second half of the year, following the strong rebound in the second quarter. This may be a case for some easing on rates.” Downside risk has become more ominous.

Martin Feldstein says the economy faces a triple threat from housing: a sharp decline in home prices and construction; higher borrowing costs and a freeze in the credit markets stemming from subprime-mortgage losses; and fewer home equity loans and refinanced mortgages, leading to less consumer spending. His speech ending the foray at Jackson Hole, Wy. was a gloomy end to the conference, which had many pessimistic participants.

Nobel prize winner Robert Mundell is an idiot. The economist says the euro’s steady appreciation against the dollar in the last several years threatens the European economy by tipping it into deflation. Eurozone members have said they can tolerate the euro at $1.44. Everything we have ever read by this economist we have disagreed with. In his ideas for the Western Hemisphere he advocates all currencies being hooked to the dollar or to be a dollar economy.

More than 100,000 Americans are on our Gestapo’s watch list and no fly lists. If you criticize the president you end up on the list, and you are banned from airline flights, harassed at airports, strip-searched, roughed up and even imprisoned. This is part of the demise of freedom in America. They not only have a list for terrorist suspects, but of journalists, academics, activists and politicians. Federal senators and congressmen have been detained a number of times. Bush and Cheney are into humiliation and that is what should expect from pedophiles. Only depraved dictators do this kind of things and that is what we have.

Commercial real estate prices should fall 15% over the next year in the broadest decline since 2001. People are not willing to do deals right now. They expect lower prices. In July, investors bought the fewest commercial properties since 8/06 and apartment building acquisitions were down 50% from June. There is a stampede to get out. The estimate we project is a 15% drop over the next two years. The Bloomberg Property Index fell 2.7%. We are starting to see forced sales of assets to pay off outstanding debt. Some companies need cash infusions and in this market they are not easy to come by.

The number of job cuts by corporations announced in August jumped 85.2% from the number reported in the prior-month of 79,459. That is up 21.7% from August 2006, when the cuts were 65,278. Job cuts this year total 515,855, 4.3% fewer than the 538,914 in the first eight months of 2006.

The finance industry cut 35,752 jobs last month due to the collapse of the mortgage and subprime markets and on Wall Street.

NORTHCOM Plans 5 Day Martial Law Exercise
    http://intelstrike.com/?p=57
By Lee Rogers - Intel Strike Contributing Writer

The United States Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) has just announced plans for an anti-terrorism exercise called Vigilant Shield 08. The exercise which is slated to run from October 15th to October 20th is described as a way to prepare, prevent and respond to any number of national crises. The exercise is simply a test case scenario for the implementation of martial law. Although the description of the exercise is disturbing, USNORTHCOM also announced that they are more prepared for a natural disaster and a terrorist attack after they used their response to Hurricane Katrina as a test laboratory. During Hurricane Katrina, authorities violated the constitutional rights of citizens by stealing people's firearms and even relocating people against their will. These announcements are incredibly disturbing on a number of levels as the nature of Vigilant Shield 08 and the admission that Hurricane Katrina was used as a test laboratory shows that the government is actively preparing the military and government institutions for martial law.

Below is the full press release from USNORTHCOM describing Vigilant Shield 08.

North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command along with U.S. Pacific Command, the Department of Homeland Security as well as local, state and other federal responders will exercise their response abilities against a variety of potential threats during Exercise Vigilant Shield, a Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff-designated, North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and U.S. Northern Command (USNORTHCOM)-sponsored, and U.S. Joint Forces Command-supported Department of Defense exercise for homeland defense and defense support of civil authorities missions.

VS-08 will be conducted concurrent with Top Officials 4 (TOPOFF 4), the nation's premier exercise of terrorism preparedness sponsored by the

Department of Homeland Security, and several other linked exercises as part of the National Level Exercise 1-08. These linked exercises will take place October 15-20 and are being conducted throughout the United States and in conjunction with several partner nations including Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom, as well as the Territory of Guam.

VS-08 and National Level Exercise 1-08 will provide local, state, tribal, interagency, Department of Defense, and non-governmental organizations and agencies involved in homeland security and homeland defense the opportunity to participate in a full range of exercise scenarios that will better prepare participants to prevent and respond to national crises. The participating organizations will conduct a multi-layered, civilian-led response to a national crisis.

USNORTHCOM's primary exercise venues for VS-08 include locations in

Oregon, Arizona and a cooperative venue with USPACOM in the Territory of Guam. NORAD's aerospace detection and defense events will take place across all the exercise venues, to exercise the ability to mobilize resources for aerospace defense, aerospace control, maritime warning, and coordination of air operations in a disaster area.

This exercise is clearly a way to prepare government to respond to a national crisis with martial law. This announcement also follows a number of other news stories that indicate the government is becoming more actively prepared for the implementation of martial law.

    These stories include the following:

George W. Bush issuing a presidential directive declaring that he is a dictator during the case of a national emergency be it a natural disaster, a terror attack or any number of crises.

KSLA reporting that members of clergy will be used to convince people to submit to government in the case of declare martial law.

The U.S. Department of Treasury conducting a disaster drill to prepare for a potential economic crisis.

In addition to the announcement of Vigilant Shield 08, USNORTHCOM also announced that they have been using the lessons learned from Hurricane Katrina to better respond to crises. The response to Hurricane Katrina was essentially used as a test laboratory to implement martial law in a city. People were forced to relocate against their will and authorities stole people's firearms in the name of safety despite these actions being entirely unconstitutional.

    From USNORTHCOM:

"Hurricane Katrina's impact on this country was unprecedented. There are still many of our fellow Americans whose lives still haven't returned to normal," said Gen. Gene Renuart, commander of North American Aerospace Defense Command and USNORTHCOM. "It will take many years for the Gulf Coast to fully recover.

"The United States military was deeply involved in the response to the hurricane and subsequent flooding," Renuart said. "While our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines helped thousands of people, we also learned many lessons."

According to Renuart, USNORTHCOM has been using the lessons learned from Katrina to modify plans to respond to both natural disasters and potential terrorist actions.

Northern Command also admits in the same article that they have pre-scripted mission assignments coordinated with FEMA to implement martial law under the pretext of disaster response.

    From USNORTHCOM:

USNORTHCOM is ready to help federal, state and local officials to be prepared for a major hurricane and to be successful at conducting response operations, if necessary and requested by the primary responding agency. Some of the ways these objectives are being achieved are:

Through State Engagement programs, USNORTHCOM provides planning support to help states prepare for emergencies.

USNORTHCOM and its subordinates, as well as local, state and federal partners conduct major disaster exercises to refine processes and apply lessons learned.

Working with FEMA, USNORTHCOM has prepared pre-scripted mission assignments to accelerate the disaster response process.

USNORTHCOM conducted a major exercise with the National Guard in May to refine the interface between the National Guard and DoD.

There is no question that Vigilant Shield 08 is either government preparation for the implementation of martial law or a way for criminal elements within the government to distract emergency responders in order to conduct a false flag terror attack as a pretext to actually implement martial law and engage in foreign war. On September 11th, 2001 there were drills run by NORAD including Vigilant Guardian which served as a way to ensure that there was no adequate military response to the hi-jacked planes.

A similar scenario unfolding with Vigilant Shield is not out of the question.

Kiss the Internet as we know it GOOD BYE. It was only a matter of time...
That's been the KKKorporate assholes plan all along. No one seriously thought that corporations would want to let us get by on a measly $50 or $100/mo, did they? Like gasoline or crack; first, you get them addicted, then you up the price.
Well, I guess all of us who actually VALUE the CONSTITUTION and it's CRAZY IDEALS such as FREEDOM OF SPEECH will just have to go back to BBSing or smoke signals...
But if it's any consolation, they won't cut your service off. It's just that your e-mail may take 2 or 3 days to be delivered and your effective speed may drop to 56K on cable or DSL - AND you'll be limited to 5MB total traffic per day. Like - one short video that someone sends you will take hours to download (if it's less than 5MB) then will cause your connection to go dead because you've exceeded your daily allotment. Shitty...absolutely shitty.

Sen. Craig tells what really happened . . .by Carl Hiaasen

Sen. Craig tells what really happened . . .By CARL HIAASEN
Posted on Sun, Sep. 02, 2007
Rejected first draft of Sen. Larry's Craig's press statement about his arrest in a restroom at the Minneapolis airport:
Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for coming out today.
    I'm not.
Joined by my devoted wife, I'm here to assure the citizens of the great state of Idaho that I am not gay and never have been gay.
    How do I know?
Because every week I answer a simple, are-you-gay survey that I clipped out of a reputable underground men's magazine and carry around in my very masculine rawhide wallet.
The survey questions are pretty easy -- Can I whistle more than three Broadway show tunes? Do I tint my eyebrows? Can I make a quiche? Stuff like that.
The most points I've ever scored is 73, and you aren't officially gay unless you score 75 or higher. So there!
As an outspoken crusader for conservative family values, I have extensively researched the gay lifestyle and trained myself to identify its sinister operatives.
I usually remain on guard, but my concentration lapsed that fateful day in the Minneapolis airport. Let me explain.
Yes, as the police report says, I peeked into an adjoining stall in the men's room. That's because I thought I recognized the gentleman -- he looked like a strapping young trout guide who once floated the Snake River with me -- and I wanted to say howdy.
That's the extra-friendly Idahoan coming out in me, but apparently the rules are different in the big city. The fellow rudely ignored me, so I sat down to take care of business.
As the police report states, I did start tapping my right foot. I have since come to learn that that is a common signal for persons wishing to make sexual contact in public restrooms.
In my case, the explanation is totally innocent. There was this song playing on my iPod -- Vogue, by Madonna (the live version!) -- and my feet just went crazy to the beat.
Now, I defy anyone, Democrat or Republican, to listen to that cut (the drum work is absolutely fierce!) and not start to boogie.
And yes, as the police report alleges, my right foot veered slightly under the divider and touched the foot of the gentleman who was in the next stall.
Later I found out that this is another sign often employed between men trying to ''hook up.'' Who knew?
Back in Crested Butte, you might get your teeth knocked out for playing footsies with another guy, but you wouldn't get arrested and have your name splashed all over the headlines and end up as a joke in Letterman's monologue. Geez Louise!
The police complaint goes on to say that I put my left hand under the stall divider three times, making an overt gesture to the other fellow (who, unfortunately, turned out to be an undercover officer).
Again, I have a simple explanation. There's a little-known cowboy custom -- even some cowboys haven't heard of it -- that says you always wave three times when saying goodbye to strangers.
Once more, my Western friendliness got me into trouble.
So why did I plead guilty to disorderly conduct if I did nothing wrong?
I was tricked by those crafty, big-city prosecutors in Minnesota. Not being a legal sharpie, I had no idea that pleading guilty was actually the same as admitting guilt.
I apologize to my family, the voters of Idaho and to the Republican Party, which needs another sex scandal like Lindsay Lohan needs another vodka.
Mark Foley was dumb enough to e-mail those congressional pages, and David Vittner, my Senate colleague from Louisiana, was dumb enough to give his phone number to that escort service.
Me? I didn't tell anybody my real name until after I was busted!
Back in 1999, when I still wasn't gay, I voted to impeach Bill Clinton for lying about having sex with that intern (I forget her name, but she had killer hair).
At the time, I told Tim Russert of NBC that Clinton was ''a nasty, bad, naughty boy'' who deserved a spanking. I stand by those words, as weird as they might sound today. Clinton was a very naughty boy.
I'm not. I'm a hard-working senator who believes in traditional values -- faith, family and a strict justice system, except as it is applied to certain sitting members of Congress.
Standing humbly before you this morning, I can honestly say that I'm as not-gay right now as I have ever been in my whole life. In fact, I'm so not-gay that the gay community wants nothing to do with me.
This silly Minneapolis restroom incident has been blown out of proportion so badly, and it's time to set the record straight.
Here's a promise to the good folks of Idaho: I am so not-gay that I will quiz myself every morning with that magazine survey, and publish the results in the Congressional Record for all to see.
The day I turn gay, you will be the first to know.
Then you can spank me all you like. Please.

How Orwellian! New documents reveal that British intelligence monitored George Orwell. (Lu note: Why am I NOT suprised?!?!?)

    From Mike Malloy's site

Terror terror everywhere and no duct tape in sight!

Loose nukes! Al Qaeda in Germany and (gasp) Denmark! And it's almost 9-11! 9-11! 9-11! We must always be terrified by 9-11! 9-11! 9-11!

But it seems that the biggest terrorist threat we face today comes from the executive branch itself.

With today's terror-filled newscasts, Dick Cheney's former legal counsel and current chief of staff, David Addington, must be drooling in anticipation of mushroom clouds over Detroit and mass radiation poisoning in Phoenix. According to a new book, "The Terror Presidency,” when cautioned by the author – then a Justice Department lawyer - about the legality of the NSA eavesdropping program and that such action was a potential violation of the FISA court, Addington tried to silence him with visions of another 9-11: “We’re one bomb away from getting rid of that obnoxious [FISA] court," he sneered.

Salon.com put it this way: "During his tenure, Goldsmith discovered numerous legal positions which the administration had adopted that he found baseless and even unconscionable -- from torture to detention powers to illegal surveillance -- and he repudiated many of them, thereby repeatedly infuriating the most powerful White House officials, led by Cheney top aide David Addington. Addington views the Next Terrorist Attack as the golden opportunity to seize yet more power. Sitting around the White House dreaming of all the great new powers they will have once the new terrorist attack occurs -- as Addington was doing -- is nothing short of deranged."

In a separate incident when Goldsmith questioned administration authority to violate the 4th amendment, Addington again angrily accused him of complicity in a terrorist plot: “If you rule that way, the blood of the hundred thousand people who die in the next attack will be on your hands.”

Wow! So Cheney found himself a senior advisor with as voracious an appetite for death and destruction as he has. Lynne must be so jealous . . . .

So, we flip on the TV today to discover an alleged massive al Qeada terror plot in Germany, and loose nuclear weapons flying over middle America. With 9-11! 9-11! 9-11! just a few days away - as well as the Petraeus report on Iraq - could this all be mere coincidence? Or is it gleeful anticipation?

We'll discuss the latest Bush Crime Family fear mongering tonight.

Happy 60th bday to the late great FREDDIE MERCURY!

But, I'll NOT end this post on a DOWN NOTE! FUCK THAT SHIT!
Thanks to the courage of Brian May & Roger Taylor, with a little help from Paul Rodgers, the show DOES go on!

    THE WAR IN IRAQ:

They always show up at the scene of the crime. President Bush made a surprise visit to Iraq yesterday…

In Iraq, Bush raised the possibility of future troop cuts.

Iraqi PM Maliki thinks that the Iraqi government is making progress.

Though Bush sees the “surge” working, the troop buildup has failed to promote national reconciliation.

The total number of Iraqi civilian deaths continues to rise.

Any success that the surge has shown is notably fragile.

Caught in yet another lie: letters contradict Bush’s version of the decision to disband the Iraqi army.

A new book called “Dead Certain: The Presidency of George Bush”, says that Karl Rove warned against Cheney as a running mate and objected to the nomination of Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court.

Some soldiers volunteer for duty in Iraq just to reduce crushing debt burdens. Hmmm… maybe Bush does have a plan.

Colin Powell used “DRAWINGS" with BIG SCARY ARROWS and labels saying “MUNITIONS BUNKER” “MOBILE LABORATORY" and now it's David Petraeus' turn to pull off another SNOW JOB IN THE DESERT.

Congress returns from summer break today with gloves up!

    Japan to research Internet replacement

Can you believe this load of pure unadulterated horse dropping?! They tried everything to shut down the internetS with that blasted garbage of trying to getting rid of net-neutrality. And since flopped worse than Booosh trying to hock us a chinik about privatizing Social Security, well now this! Beyond belief!
They claim the internet is "running out of space" and that spammer and hackers are killing it blah blah blah... so their answer is to create a "new" internet - that they completely own and control... making it next to impossible for the average person to "get online". This amounts to nothing more than another attempt to repress THE TRUTH.

    Japan to research Internet replacement
By YURI KAGEYAMA, AP Business Writer Wed Aug 29, 12:12 PM ET
Japan plans to start research on new networking technology that could one day replace the Internet amid its growing quality and security problems, according to the nation's communications ministry.
U.S. and European researchers already have started similar efforts to rebuild the underlying architecture of the Internet.
Yoshihiro Onishi, assistant director at the Japanese communications ministry, said Japan must follow suit to stay competitive. Post-Internet network technology is expected to become imperative by 2020, he said.
"The Internet is reaching its limit," he said. "We feel this research for the technology is definitely needed."
When researchers largely knew one another, the Internet's early architects kept the shared network open and flexible qualities that proved key to its rapid growth. But that later allowed spammers and hackers to roam freely.
The network's designers also assumed that computers would be in fixed locations and always connected, creating headaches as laptops and other mobile devices proliferated.
Many scientists are starting to believe a totally new network is needed. It could run parallel with the Internet or eventually replace it, or parts of the research could go into a major overhaul of the existing architecture.
Researchers may also seek a network that consumes lower levels of energy.
The Japanese ministry wants to set up an organization with private sector involvement by the end of the year that will do the groundwork for starting the research. It will request money in the fiscal year to begin April 1, although the amount has yet to be decided.
Onishi said collaborating with other nations will be an option.
Such efforts in the U.S. aren't expected to bear fruit for 10 or 15 years. Congress has yet to provide with full funding for the research.

Would You Give Your Life to Change
    America? I Would!
    By Timothy V. Gatto

I’m reading so much negativity from the left. I guess it’s to be expected. The system isn’t working. We know it and so do most people in this country. The government is out of control The people have just about no say in what they do in our name. They won’t impeach Bush or Cheney. We might as well understand it. Whether they should be impeached or not, it’s a moot question. The cowardly Congress won’t do anything. The time for working inside the system is over. All of these letters to our Congressmen might have been better off being used as toilet paper, because that’s just what they are doing with them.

This is when people have to hit the streets. Stop lighting candles and standing in front of Federal buildings. They don’t care. The only thing that’s going to make these bastards think twice is when you take those goddamn candles and start lighting bonfires in the street. The system is broken, understand that and we will all be a lot better off. Take everyone that voted for the Authorization of Force in Iraq and vote them out of office, all of them, Democrat, Republican and Independent. That’s about the only thing we have left for working within the system.

The time has come to work OUTSIDE the system. Start forming chains and use the principle of “passive resistance” that Gandhi preached and was used so successfully in the demonstrations against the Vietnam War. The time for standing on the sidewalk is over. These people are even worse than Nixon. They want to use Nuclear Weapons as a first-strike option! Hillary Clinton, that wonderful “progressive” even stated that fact. Obama, with all his fancy words and his phony message of “hope” is another one that thinks nothing of lobbing nukes around.

We are about a few months away from full-scale violent demonstrations like happened in the 70’s. If these mass rallies on DC and NYC don’t change the attitude of these sycophants in Washington, there will be hell to pay. They are completely oblivious to the mood in this country. They are completely oblivious of the scale that Americans are sick-to-death of Bush and his ilk. Americans are furious that New Orleans hasn’t been rebuilt! Bush even went in front of the VFW and the American Legion and he got a lukewarm reception. There was a Commander of a National Guard that heard a Governor speak in front of his National Guard troops and proclaim that the priority is to end this war in Iraq and get the troops home! The troops cheered wildly!

Just because you are reading a Progressive site, don’t think that you are the only one that’s pissed. Don’t you think for a moment that you are the “fringe”. You certainly are not. Other people are more like you than you think. Just google “Conservative Anti-War Websites.” I think you will be more than pleasantly surprised.

Frankly, I’m a little tired of these “losers” that say that America is a cesspool of right-wing filth. If you remember, Bush stole those elections. Most of Americans don’t want him. They don’t want corporations running our country anymore. They are voting for “Clean Elections”. It’s easy to say that everything sucks and that this country has always been an evil country and that it always will be. If you don’t want to do what you need to do to change it, then just shut up! I’m so sick of all you pessimistic bastards. All you are doing is throwing in the towel and you have no faith. Without some kind of faith in something, you have nothing. If you think you are unique in your belief that America is through as a decent country, then I advise you go someplace else. If you can’t fight for what you believe, you don’t belong here. One thing I can’t stand is someone that is completely negative. You’re beaten before you start. You make the progressive movement look like a bunch of spoiled crybabies. Get a grip. If you are so angry, use that anger to stop these fascists that are ruining our homeland!

This has been coming for a while. I don’t know who I’m angrier with, the neo-con bastards that don’t care about anything but power, or the people that hate them that have given up on The United States. If you want to give up and say nothing can be done, that is your prerogative, but if you see me at a demonstration or somewhere else, you better keep you mouth shut, that’s if you want to be able to talk for the next week.

This is a time where we need Patriots, not whiners. It’s going to take courage to change this nation of OURS. I will give my life to change it. Will you?

That’s the way I see it.

Train Wreck of the Week Sept. 1

Bob Chapman MUST have one hell of a security detail to publish what he does on TheInternationalForecaster.com!
That or they think I'm the only one reading this!!!

The underside of the home mortgage market is not very well known, so the size of threat is being grossly underestimated. It is a sprawling, varied enterprise that no one regulator oversees, making it impossible to know how many mortgages or lenders not insured by the government are in trouble. No public records are available to show who holds the trillions of dollars worth of mortgages that have been turned into CDOs and flogged worldwide. Last fall there were 90,000 non-bank lenders. There could be only half that now. These are state licensed lenders who have made 70% of annual mortgages. You hear about Countrywide and Indymac, but not of the others.

We know federally regulated lenders past due loans were 10.6% last quarter at $6.4 billion. What lurks below the surface we do not know, but we do know it is not good.

The Census Bureau reports that median household come rose 0.7% last year, its second annual increase in a row to $48,201. There may have been a five year recovery, but not for the average Americans.

The median household income last year was still $1,000 less than in 2000. In 2006, 36.5 million Americans were living in poverty, five million more than six years ago, when the poverty level fell to 11.3%.

If you figure in an average inflation rate of 8% for five years you find the average American’s purchasing power has been deeply depleted.

Our Comptroller General tells us the truth but our elected officials do not want to hear that they are bankrupting America. Our media makes mention of what David Walker has to say and then you hear nothing else about the matter. In fact, most of the media doesn’t report what he has to say. The media is rigged, politicians do not care, business interests want the truth to disappear and the public is generally in denial.

America has become an empire and with that mantel has come declining moral values, corruption and a political system that refuses to function in behalf of the American people. Our military has to fight wars based on lies for profit, and is over extended in foreign lands. We wallow in fiscal and monetary irresponsibility by our government. We have more problems than Rome did before the barbarians broke down the gates.

We certainly haven’t learned from history because we know so little of history. In addition we think of only tomorrow, not much further. If America doesn’t wake up and use the brains God has given them we’ll not only be broke but we will be a second-class nation.

Mortgage application volume fell 4% for the week ended August 24th. Refi volume fell 4.2%. Mortgages have gone increasingly delinquent and into default in recent months. ARMs accounted for 15% of all mortgage applications during the week, down from 18.6% during the prior week, and 26.8% yoy. The 30-year fixed as reported by the MBA fell to 6.41% from 6.49%. It should be noted that 142 major lenders have gone bankrupt this year with only several being bought out.

Softening conditions and volatility in financial markets and a softening economy assisted by a collapsing housing and credit market has pushed the consumer confidence index down to 105.0 in August from a revised 111.9 in July. This is the lowest level since 9/05 after Katrina.

One after another the men and women who have stepped forward to report corruption in the massive effort to rebuild Iraq have been vilified, fired and demoted.

For daring to report illegal arms sales, a Navy veteran says he was imprisoned by the American military in a security compound outside Baghdad and subjected to harsh interrogation methods. They did the total number on him. He told the FBI that the company he worked for, Shield Security Co. was a Wal-Mart for guns and it was all illegal and everyone knew it. The corruption in Iraq is staggering.

Hundreds of projects will never be finished, including repairs to the country’s oil pipelines and electricity system. $30 billion was allocated for Iraq by Congress and $8.8 billion has been stolen. People who expose these crooks are destroyed. They cannot get jobs, they lose their families; they lose everything. You are dealing with entrenched fascists who give no quarter and specialize in revenge that extends to murder. It is heartbreaking and goes beyond corruption. It is a culture of evil. The government doesn’t care because so many people at the top are in on the corruption. There is no question that our government has forfeited its right to exist.

One of our great corporate citizens Yahoo is fighting efforts to hold it accountable for the imprisonment and alleged torture of two Chinese citizens after Yahoo turned their identities over to the Chinese Communist government. The husband and wife are serving ten years in jail for advocating Democratic reforms.

The Bush-Cheney neocons have taken private enterprise way beyond what is reasonable, desirable and safe. They have turned over national security functions to those not adequately trained, not accountable to the public or law or on the political radar. They have created their own private legions of mercenaries, intelligence analysts, security guards, etc. These mercenaries are answerable only to those who pay them. As a former part of our nation’s counterintelligence apparatus we are enraged that this is going on. This is the Praetorian Guard and the Legions of ancient Roman Caesars and Hitler’s Brownshirts. Someone has to tell us how it is that mercenary company Blackwater can buy combat aircraft? It is incredible that our government allows mercenaries to have their own private Air Force. The D.I.A. is paying $1 billion for private companies to conduct core intelligence that we were paid $300 a month to do.
