Celebrating the birth of history’s most famous liberal
The woman was as guilty as sin of the crime of adultery: the penalty for the offense, death by stoning, was clearly established. So what was Jesus Christ’s response?
Talk about a bleeding heart liberal!
Now, to be fair to the alligator brains out there who have somehow managed to construe words like these to constitute an endorsement of intolerance, vengefulness and greed, I should probably note that there’s some controversy over whether this particular story belongs in the Bible. It wasn’t in the earliest versions of the Gospel of John, apparently having been added later.
So, perhaps the alligator brains are relying, instead, on less disputed examples of Jesus Christ’s teachings. This for example:
Matthew 25:33-40
For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’“The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’Let me see if I’ve got this straight. The test of being a good Christian is generosity toward the underprivileged. Strange. I mean, what’s that got to do with Come to think of it, wasn’t this the same man who , declaring: “Get these out of here! Do not make My Father’s house a house of merchandise!” Hasn’t he heard of the divine right to unfettered and unregulated markets?
You know, if I didn’t know better I’d have to say the man sounds like a card carrying . . . liberal.
Wow. Whoever would have thought there’d be a whole holiday set aside celebrating the birth of history’s most famous liberal?
Merry Christmas.
Roger Taylor THE UNBLINKING EYE - LIMITED EDITION CD RELEASE!!!

PRESS RELEASE:
THE UNBLINKING EYE - LIMITED EDITION CD RELEASE
ROGER TAYLOR: “The Unblinking Eye (Everything is Broken)”
Click here to order the Limited Edition CD through the QOL Store.
Roger Taylor has never been shy to speak his mind. While perhaps not so obvious in the multi-million selling hits he has written for Queen (although many consider “Radio Ga Ga” to be a Queen’s ‘statement’ song), Roger’s tell-it-as-you-see it perspective has become something of his trademark, both in the rare interviews he gives and defined in his solo work.
Revisit Taylor’s two last solo albums, “Happiness?” (1994) and “Electric Fire” (1998) and you are reminded of what an acute observational songwriter Taylor is at heart. Both works potently reflect Taylor’s personal views on such issues as national obsolescence, domestic violence, and poverty.
Taylor's songs come across as contemporary reflections on life, often richly melancholic, with socially aware lyrics calling for justice, awareness and equality.
A quote from the time has Taylor saying: "We (pop stars) are people not androids. We've got views. I've got opinions and I don't see why I shouldn't use a bit of my art to put them over. I think music is one of the most powerful media forces in the world today."
Twelve years have passed since Taylor last expressed himself so openly (with “Electric Fire”). Any thoughts that those passing years may have dulled Taylor’s sharp edge are immediately dispelled with the arrival (January 4) of a new solo single from Taylor, “The Unblinking Eye (Everything is Broken)”.
“What happened to the protest song?” Taylor’s liner notes for the new single ask, lamenting “music is now so polished, shiny and predictable, we have forgotten to try and ‘say something with it’.
“I am getting old and like everyone, have the right to say something about the ‘state of control’ we live under – powerless to do anything about it. “
So what riles Taylor enough to ruffle the now famous goatee and goad him sufficiently to want to go public with his concerns?
In what comes across as both frustration and bridled fury, Taylor’s song weighs into those elected to govern our everyday lives:
…”In case you hadn’t noticed…The high street is full of holes…We are fighting a pointless war which is killing our young soldiers and which we simply cannot afford….the nation is not only broke but utterly bankrupt…we are spied upon by 5 million cameras…We have thousands of petty rules and regulations – more than ever before - no wonder people are bewildered and confused…As a nation we own almost nothing including “our” water, electricity, gas, airspace and major manufacturers. Personal privacy is non-existent. We are directionless.
“I’m pissed off – you should be too.”
Taylor is encouraging others sharing his feelings of frustration to similarly express themselves. The single “The Unblinking Eye (Everything is Broken)” will also carry a fully instrumental track Taylor has called “Almost Completely Nude” to provide a vehicle for others to write and perform their own protest song.
“You know who to send it to,” says Taylor.
“The Unblinking Eye (Everything is Broken)” released January 4. Available at www.queenonline.com
P.S. Taylor’s active approach to issues of personal concern has not been confined to his music: when media mogul Rupert Murdoch made attempts to buy Manchester United football club, Taylor funded the club supporters in their attempts to block the sale, and historically helped them succeed.

Botched WFLZ stunt starts fire, injures employee and firefighter
Tampa Fire Rescue
This is what was left of a radio station's van after this morning's stunt went awry.

TAMPA - A radio station's turkey-frying stunt turned into a recipe for disaster this morning when an attempt to cook the frozen bird in a van resulted in the vehicle catching fire.
During a stunt for "The MJ Morning Show" on WFLZ, 93.3 FM, a grease fryer was placed inside the van, which had furniture in it that caught fire, Tampa Fire Rescue spokesman Capt. Bill Wade said.
WFLZ employees were supposed to lower the turkey into the van using a crane but never got a chance before flames engulfed the vehicle.
One of the radio station's employees was injured. A firefighter also injured his back during the incident at Clear Channel Radio, 4202 Gandy Blvd., Wade said.
Ken Licata, a firefighter for 26 years, was taken to a hospital.
Wade expressed anger over the stunt.
"They wanted a fire," Wade said. "They had no permits, no proper safety crews. When the fire got going, they called the fire department.
The morning show and stunt were streamed live on the station's Web site and recorded.
"We'll see what happens when we return," a disc jockey said before cutting to a commercial break, urging listeners to watch the escapade online. By the time the show resumed, the van was aflame.
Employees unsuccessfully tried to put out the fire.
The call to firefighters came about 8:20 a.m. Two fire crews and a rescue car responded, Wade said.
"I am very upset that this radio station chose to do this stunt in an unsafe manner, causing injury to a firefighter," Wade said.
When reached by phone, WFLZ personality Todd Schnitt, known on the air as "MJ," declined comment, saying he would return a call later.
Investigators from the state and Tampa fire marshal offices have handed their notes on the incident to the state attorney's office, which will determine whether charges will be filed.
In addition to WFLZ, Clear Channel operates several radio stations in the Tampa Bay area, including WDAE, 620 AM, and WFUS, 103.5 FM.

Open Letter To The Tea Baggers
Open Letter To The Tea Baggers
Tuesday December 1, 2009 4:12 a.m.
By Ken Kupchik
Dear Tea Baggers,
I am convinced that close to 90% of you have no clue what you're even protesting. If it's the debt or the deficit, where were you the last eight years? You scream about ignoring the Constitution, but when pressed for specific examples you stutter on about Socialism. Most of you don't even know the definition of socialism, it's just a buzzword your rich corporate sponsors injected into the debate to further their own agenda.
You shout people down in town halls while they talk about loved ones who were denied care by health insurance company "death panels." Classy. And stop calling it a "government take over of health care," if anything, the current bills are the opposite, driving more people into the free-market health care system and making those insurers even wealthier. Shouldn't that make you happy?
Also? Please stop bringing up the founding fathers. You did not know them. You do not have some sort of special access to their views on the current debate if they were alive today. For all you know, they would have voted for Barack Obama. If you want to go back to the days of the founding fathers as your misspelled signs and civil war garb suggests, you will also have to give up the following:
- Cars
- Sneakers
- Fast food
- Telephones
- Chocolate chip cookies
- Fox News
- Medicare
- Rush Limbaugh
- Automatic weapons
I knew those last two would change your mind. Oh, and the founding fathers read....a lot, and not books by Glenn Beck. Maybe you should start by reading the Constitution, I suggest Article I Section 8.
Sincerely,
Coffee Filterer
