FORT LAUDERDALE - The Neil Rogers era in South Florida radio is over.
Rogers, for most of the past 33 years the most popular talk host in the market, has reached an agreement that removes his 10 a.m.-2 p.m. program from WQAM (AM 560) immediately. It will be replaced by a sports program.
Reached at his Toronto home, where the show has originated in recent years, Rogers answered the phone with, "Can't talk at all, under penalty of death."
Rogers' attorney, Norman Kent, is quoted in a WQAM announcement saying, "Mr. Rogers has no intention of seeking other on-air work at this time and has directed me not to seek any such employment, though under our agreement with WQAM, this is not prohibited."

Ask TJ: Neil Rogers loved Toronto, even in winter

Q. I lived in Florida but moved to Michigan several years ago. I recently found out that Neil Rogers died. I was a regular listener while I lived in Florida. Anyway, I heard that he moved to Toronto. I live in Detroit, so I know how hard the winters are in Canada. I can understand moving to Toronto for the summers but the winters are really, really long. Did Neil really hate Florida that much? Also, what's the latest on his estate. Was Jorge (Rodriguez) left any money? I heard the station fired him in an effort to save money. Any help with these "ponderous" questions would be great. He maintained a home in Broward right to the end and came south several times a year. I think it was more a case of Neil being able to be himself in Toronto. He really was a private person off the air. As for his will, it mentioned only about three people, none of whom would be familiar to the general public. Jorge Rodriguez was not included but I wouldn't read too much into that. Jorge, who indeed was fired by WQAM to save money, organized and staged a wonderful memorial service for Neil. One of the things that amused the hundreds of friends and fans who turned out was this was the kind of event Neil would have not had anything to do with.

There is no real story. The management of WQAM made life miserable for Neil until he was willing to take a buyout. It was a huge payoff, which gives him the luxury of never having to work again. He and Hank Goldberg would make a great six-hour block. Everyone but the brass at WQAM knows that. But Neil says he is retired and Hank is busy working for ESPN on horse racing and making football picks.

Rogers, for most of the past 33 years the most popular talk host in the market, has reached an agreement that removes his 10 a.m.-2 p.m. program from WQAM (AM 560) immediately. It will be replaced by a sports program.
In an interview Kent said the statement was worked out between him and the station, "So there's really nothing more to add."
Rogers, 66, worked at WKAT, WNWS, WINZ, Zeta 4 and WIOD before joining WQAM in 1997. He said he isn't going to work in radio again.
"This is it," Rogers said. "The guy who [regularly] called up and said, 'Retire!' is finally getting his way."
Asked if he would miss doing a daily show, Rogers said emphatically, "No .ƒ|.ƒ|. like hemorrhoids."
Rogers had a five-year contract that runs through 2013, which set his salary in the range of $750,000-$800,000 annually.
The WQAM announcement said Rogers would serve as a consultant. Given the animosity between the two parties, this might be a bookkeeping device to justify whatever financial agreement was reached.
Bad blood had been simmering. In May, WQAM fired Rogers' longtime producer, Jorge Rodriguez. On May 18, Rogers, weary of listener comments about Rodriguez, blurted out a profanity aimed at station management. Rogers said he immediately reached for the button that allows seven seconds to delete anything before it gets on the air. However, the button was not working and the expletive aired. Rogers was suspended for three days with pay.
Rogers also said the station was pressing him to give up his relaxed summer schedule, which required him to work only two days a week. Rogers was adamant he wouldn't do this.
Rogers often complained that Beasley lawyers had ordered him to strip his program of bawdy material, which, he said, took away his show. Monday, it was taken away in total.

According to Joe Bell, VP and Market Manager for Beasley's Miami Radio cluster, a Sports/Talk show will launch immediately from 10am to 2pm, whereas Rogers' program was all Talk.

Someone pass this on to Mr. Radio 610 (those in the "know" already know who I'm talking about) and please get me the REAL scoop on WINZ & why it's been "rumored" to flip to sports for the last 6 months or however long it has.
My take: WINZ is jonesing for ratings, and since the station is owned by Crap Channel (who are about as liberal as Gingas Kahn) don't count on them coughing up a few bucks for a billboard for INZ (even though Cum Channel owns most of the billboards in this country!!!) or putting in a print ad in the Miami Herald, Sun Sentinel or Palm Beach Post (don't forget the suitcase for the birb money!) or a TV ad (shit knows how much that'd set 'em back, but they GOT the money...) or whatever, write on a bathroom wall! Then you wonder why your station gets no ratings. Fucking christ, even the cheap ass Beasley cocksuckers put up a could of Neil Rogers billboards in Broward & Miami!!!! Get the fuck with it! Or does CC have something against CAPITALISM?!!?!?!?

So who wants to start up a betting poll of how Clear Channel, as well as the rest of the terrestrial radio scum and vermin, do at least half a dozen MORE assaults on LIBERAL TALK RADIO before Election Day, which is Tuesday, Nov. 4th, DO NOT LET THEM TAKE THIS RIGHT AWAY TOO! 1) Howard Stern Show -- fired from 6 CC stations (Miami, Orlando, Louisville KY, San Diego, Pittsburgh, and Rochester NY) in Feb. 2004, right after Janet's Boob Gate *GASP* MOMMY! A NIPPLE!!! Grow THE FUCK UP America...
2) Bubba The Love Sponge -- fired from ALL his stations, all of which were CC owned (Tampa, Orlando, Jacksonville, Ft. Myers & West Palm Beach--maybe a few others, not exactly sure) again, in Feb. 2004. Bubba and crew were OUT OF WORK FOR THE NEXT TWO YEARS, UNTIL HOWARD STERN GOT HIM HIRED TO SIRIUS! Bubba was #1 i Tampa, #1 in Ft. Myers, ALMOST #1 in Jacksonville, did well in Orlando and did not-so-well in West Palm! However, Bubba MADE CC MONNNNNNNEY!
