A New Record Low for the Dollar
The US dollar took centre stage this past week by plumbing new depths. The US Dollar Index made a record low, as we can see on the following chart.
I first presented the arrow on the above chart in my alert on November 11, 2007, and made the following observation. "When taken together, the eerie calm as the dollar collapses and the arrow in the above chart pointing to the building downside momentum suggest that the dollar is nowhere near its final low." That eerie calm remains. Few people are yet facing the facts.
For example, this past week I heard a business television reporter make the following ridiculous comment: "The dollar is at an all-time low because the European Central Bank doesn't want to cut interest rates." It is of course easy to blame others for the dollar's problems, rather than those truly culpable, namely, the spendthrifts in Washington, D.C. and the apparatchiks in the Federal Reserve who provide the politicians with all the dollars they want.
Another example of ignoring reality are the misguided media reports that state rising commodity prices are due to crop shortages. In reality, a tight supply of wheat cannot possibly explain why the prices of nearly all commodities are rising. It's not because there are too few commodities, but rather, too many dollars.
The Federal Reserve stopped reporting M3, the total quantity of dollars, in March 2006. But thanks to the work of John Williams of www.shadowstats.com we know how rapidly M3 is growing. The red line on the following chart shows the growth in M3 since the Fed stopped making that data available. The Fed obviously did not want us to know how many dollars they would be creating, which is now approaching record rates of growth.
The dollar is falling off the edge of a cliff, and for good reason. I continue to believe that the possibility of a dollar collapse is both real and imminent, and the probability of this outcome for the dollar increases with each new high in the precious metals - like those achieved this past week. Ominously for the dollar, the following charts indicate that more new highs in gold and silver look probable in the weeks immediately ahead.

For the LAST TIME: NO Saddam / Al CIA-duh link!!!!!!!!!
By Warren P. Strobel, McClatchy Newspapers Mon Mar 10, 7:08 PM ET
WASHINGTON — An exhaustive review of more than 600,000 Iraqi documents that were captured after the 2003 U.S. invasion has found no evidence that Saddam Hussein's regime had any operational links with Osama bin Laden's al Qaida terrorist network.
The Pentagon-sponsored study, scheduled for release later this week, did confirm that Saddam's regime provided some support to other terrorist groups, particularly in the Middle East , U.S. officials told McClatchy . However, his security services were directed primarily against Iraqi exiles, Shiite Muslims, Kurds and others he considered enemies of his regime.
The new study of the Iraqi regime's archives found no documents indicating a "direct operational link" between Hussein's Iraq and al Qaida before the invasion, according to a U.S. official familiar with the report.
He and others spoke to McClatchy on condition of anonymity because the study isn't due to be shared with Congress and released before Wednesday.
President Bush and his aides used Saddam's alleged relationship with al Qaida, along with Iraq's supposed weapons of mass destruction, as arguments for invading Iraq after the September 11, 2001 , terrorist attacks.
Then-Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld claimed in September 2002 that the United States had "bulletproof" evidence of cooperation between the radical Islamist terror group and Saddam's secular dictatorship.
Then-Secretary of State Colin Powell cited multiple linkages between Saddam and al Qaida in a watershed February 2003 speech to the United Nations Security Council to build international support for the invasion. Almost every one of the examples Powell cited turned out to be based on bogus or misinterpreted intelligence.
As recently as last July, Bush tried to tie al Qaida to the ongoing violence in Iraq . "The same people that attacked us on September the 11th is a crowd that is now bombing people, killing innocent men, women and children, many of whom are Muslims," he said.
The new study, entitled "Saddam and Terrorism: Emerging Insights from Captured Iraqi Documents", was essentially completed last year and has been undergoing what one U.S. intelligence official described as a "painful" declassification review.
It was produced by a federally-funded think tank, the Institute for Defense Analyses , under contract to the Norfolk, Va .-based U.S. Joint Forces Command.
Spokesmen for the Joint Forces Command declined to comment until the report is released. One of the report's authors, Kevin Woods , also declined to comment.
The issue of al Qaida in Iraq already has played a role in the 2008 presidential campaign.
Sen. John McCain , the presumptive GOP nominee, mocked Sen. Barack Obama , D-Ill, recently for saying that he'd keep some U.S. troops in Iraq if al Qaida established a base there.
"I have some news. Al Qaida is in Iraq ," McCain told supporters. Obama retorted that, "There was no such thing as al Qaida in Iraq until George Bush and John McCain decided to invade." (In fact, al Qaida in Iraq didn't emerge until 2004, a year after the invasion.)
The new study appears destined to be used by both critics and supporters of Bush's decision to invade Iraq to advance their own familiar arguments.
While the documents reveal no Saddam-al Qaida links, they do show that Saddam and his underlings were willing to use terrorism against enemies of the regime and had ties to regional and global terrorist groups, the officials said.
However, the U.S. intelligence official, who's read the full report, played down the prospect of any major new revelations, saying, "I don't think there's any surprises there."
Saddam, whose regime was relentlessly secular, was wary of Islamic extremist groups such as al Qaida, although like many other Arab leaders, he gave some financial support to Palestinian groups that sponsored terrorism against Israel .
According to the State Department's annual report on global terrorism for 2002— the last before the Iraq invasion— Saddam supported the militant Islamic group Hamas in Gaza , Palestinian Islamic Jihad and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command , a radical, Syrian-based terrorist group.
Saddam also hosted Palestinian terrorist Abu Nidal , although the Abu Nidal Organization was more active when he lived in Libya and he was murdered in Baghdad in August 2002 , possibly on Saddam's orders.
An earlier study based on the captured Iraqi documents, released by the Joint Forces Command in March 2006 , found that a militia Saddam formed after the 1991 Persian Gulf war, the Fedayeen Saddam, planned assassinations and bombings against his enemies. Those included Iraqi exiles and opponents in Iraq's Kurdish and Shiite communities.
Other documents indicate that the Fedayeen Saddam opened paramilitary training camps that, starting in 1998, hosted "Arab volunteers" from outside of Iraq . What happened to the non-Iraqi volunteers is unknown, however, according to the earlier study.
The new Pentagon study isn't the first to refute earlier administration contentions about Saddam and al Qaida.
A September 2006 report by the Senate Intelligence Committee concluded that Saddam was "distrustful of al Qaida and viewed Islamic extremists as a threat to his regime, refusing all requests from al Qaida to provide material or operational support."
The Senate report, citing an FBI debriefing of a senior Iraqi spy, Faruq Hijazi , said that Saddam turned down a request for assistance by bin Laden which he made at a 1995 meeting in Sudan with an Iraqi operative.

Spitzer Could Be Gone - But Not Bush
Today Eliot Spitzer (at least according to some media sources) resigned or temporarily suspended his work as the Governor of New York State over questions of private personal morality. No one lost their life, no one was defrauded of State funds no one suffered life long injuries. As far as I'm concerned his alleged involvement with a "prostitution ring" is a matter between him and his family.
Meanwhile in DC we have a President and Vice President who knowingly lied us into two wars that has led to the loss of over one million lives, destroyed the physical and mental well being of almost all the soldiers of fought in this theater (re PTSD etc) and has through the use of depleted uranium contributed to an environmental disaster that will last for literally centuries. Additionally, Bush knowingly suppressed the provision of needed supplies to the victims of Katrina thereby causing an untold amount of suffering and death.
Furthermore, Bush's budgets and tax cuts for the rich have ravaged poor and working class families causing additional suffering. But Bush continues to (mis)govern relishing the prospect of a cozy Texas sized retirement.
Something is wrong with a society that demands an elected officials head for personal activities but will forgive another official for grave and illegal transgressions of his Elective responsibilities.

WASHINGTON (AP) - FBI Director Robert Mueller says an upcoming Justice Department report will show the bureau improperly used national security letters to obtain personal data on Americans during terror and spy investigations.
Mueller says the report focuses on national security letters issued only in 2006 - a year before the FBI enacted sweeping new reforms to prevent future lapses.
Mueller's comments Wednesday morning in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee came just days before the Justice Department's inspector general is scheduled to release the follow-up to a similar audit in 2007.
Last year's report found that over a three-year period, the FBI had demanded personal data on people from banks, telephone and Internet providers and credit bureaus without official authorization and in non-emergency circumstances.

Halliburton Confirms Concentration Camps Already Constructed
Halliburton Confirms Concentration Camps Already ConstructedOn February 17, 2006, in a speech to the Council on Foreign Relations, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld spoke of the harm being done to the country?s security, not just by the enemy, but also by what he called ?news informers? who needed to be combated in ?a contest of wills.? In 2002 Attorney General John Ashcroft announced his desire to see camps for U.S. citizens deemed to be ?enemy combatants.? A Defense Department document, entitled the ?Strategy for Homeland Defense and Civil Support,? has set out a military strategy against terrorism that envisions an ?active, layered defense? both inside and outside U.S. territory. In the document, the Pentagon pledges to ?transform U.S. military forces to execute homeland defense missions in the . . . U.S. homeland.? The strategy calls for increased military reconnaissance and surveillance. The Washington Post reported on February 15, 2006 that the National Counterterrorism Center?s (NCTC) central repository holds the names of 325,000 terrorist suspects, a fourfold increase since fall of 2003. A Pentagon official said the Counterintelligence Field Activity?s TALON program has amassed files on antiwar protesters. Shortly after Bush orchestrated 9/11, he issued "Military Order Number One", which empowered him to detain any noncitizen as an international terrorist or enemy combatant. Today that order extends to U.S. citizens as well. | |||
| Halliburton subsidiary "KBR has been awarded a contract announced by the Department of Homeland Security?s United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) component. The Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity contingency contract is to support ICE facilities and has a maximum total value of $385 million over a five year term. The contract provides for establishing temporary detention and processing capabilities in the event of an emergency influx of immigrants into the United States, or to support the rapid development of new programs". See Source Document on Halliburton Site or page 1, & 5 below Why exactly are prisons being built for "the rapid development of new programs". Halliburton's company site confirms that the government is engaged in a massive construction and preparation exercise to build concentration camps and prisoner processing facilities in the United States. This is particularity astonishing and disturbing considering that the U.S. already incarcerates more orders of magnitude more people than any other nation, about on-par with U.S.S.R. at the height of Stalin's era. The contract of the Halliburton subsidiary KBR to build immigrant detention facilities is part of a longer-term Homeland Security plan titled ENDGAME, which sets as its goal the removal of ?all removable aliens? and ?potential terrorists.? In the 1980s Richard Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld discussed similar emergency detention powers as part of a super-secret program of planning for what was euphemistically called ?Continuity of Government? (COG). These men planned for suspension of the Constitution, not just after nuclear attack, but for any ?national security emergency,? which they vaguely defined in Executive Order 12656 of 1988. Over 800 concentration camps are reported throughout the United States, all fully operational and ready to receive U.S. Prisoners who disagree with the government. The concentration camps are all staffed and manned by full-time guards, however, they are all empty. These camps are to be operated by FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) when Martial Law is implemented in the United States (at the stroke of a Presidential pen and the Attorney General's signature on a warrant). The camps have railroad facilities as well as roads leading to and from the detention facilities, many have airports. Like Auschwitz, some of the camps have airtight buildings and furnaces. The majority of the camps can each house a population of 20,000 prisoners. Currently, the largest of these facilities is just outside of Fairbanks, Alaska. The Alaskan facility is a massive "mental health" facility and can hold approximately 2 million people. Following the Halliburton subsidiary KBR (formerly Kellogg Brown and Root) announcement on Jan. 24 that it had been awarded a $385 million contingency contract by the Department of Homeland Security to build detention camps, two weeks later, on Feb. 6, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff announced that the Fiscal Year 2007 federal budget would allocate over $400 million to add 6,700 additional detention beds (an increase of 32 percent over 2006. What is interesting in the Homeland Security plan is that each concrete prison bed costs $60,000 per bed! Observing these concentration camps and general jail and prison facilities throughout the U.S., the Homeland Security plan is clearly buffered to build significantly more than 6,700 additional beds. | This is for real! Maps Indicating Locations of Concentration Camps Throughout U.S. Click on maps for list of locations and videos. See Army Regulation 210?35 Civilian Inmate Labor Program: Confirming the government and the Army's plans for U.S. based Concentration Camps: Former Inspector for Joint Chiefs of Staff explains how U.S. Citizens will be rounded up and sent to death camps. The plans and camps mirror Hitler's SS plans and implementations, correlating with the strong ties between the Bush's and Hitler. Military Commissions Act In yet another astonishingly treasonous act the U.S. administration has eliminated yet another key check to control out of control government, the 1878 Posse Comitatus Act. The Posse Comitatus Act which abolished the use of the U.S. military against our own citizens since 1878 has also been wiped out. This act which protected citizens through WWI, WWII, the Vietnam War, the Korean War and the Great Depression is considered by the current administration as unnecessary and a hindrance to the government's ability to prosecute inside the U.S. This is particularly chilling read more at this link: Military vs. Citizens See March 24, 1997, letter from Congressman Bill Hefner confirming the U.S. Concentration Camps: Concentration Camp Rail Car: | ||
|
The Homeland Security $400 million allocation is more than a four-fold increase over the FY 2006 budget, which provided $90 million for the same purpose. Both the contract and the budget allocation are in partial fulfillment of an ambitious 10-year Homeland Security strategic plan, code-named ENDGAME, authorized in 2003. According to a 49-page Homeland Security document on the plan, ENDGAME expands "a mission first articulated in the Alien and Sedition Acts of 1798." Its goal is the capability to "remove all removable aliens," including "illegal economic migrants, aliens who have committed criminal acts, asylum-seekers (required to be retained by law) or potential terrorists." The government's definition of an enemy combatant covers almost any individual who promotes the rudimentary rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution. Readiness Exercise 1984 - Rex 84 Texas Congressman Henry Gonzales revealed many years ago plans of Rex 84 which former colonel Ollie North helped design. The late Representative Jack Brooks also of Texas brought this concentration camp and internment program as well as the Continuity of Government Program to light during the Iran Contra hearing. The chairman refused to let North even talk about them in open hearings under ?National Security.? Mr. Gonzales stated these camps and plans were for the detention of AMERICANS, especially those who refused to surrender their weapons. The Rex-84 Alpha Explan (Readiness Exercise 1984, Exercise Plan), indicates that FEMA in association with 34 other federal civil departments and agencies conducted a civil readiness exercise during April 5-13, 1984. It was conducted in coordination and simultaneously with a Joint Chiefs exercise, Night Train 84, a worldwide military command post exercise (including Continental U.S. Forces or CONUS) based on multi-emergency scenarios operating both abroad and at home. In the combined exercise, Rex-84 Bravo, FEMA and DOD led the other federal agencies and departments, including the Central Intelligence Agency, the Secret Service, the Treasury, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Veterans Administration through a gaming exercise to test military assistance in civil defense.

Subject: [LeftWingRadicals] Damn right I'm a liberal
Damn right I'm a liberal
Dan Kurtzman, who keeps the political snark fires burning over at About.com, wrote a terrific piece for his recent book, How to Win a Fight with a Conservative. We present it here with the author's kind permission:
Liberal Manifesto
Liberals believe in clean air, diplomacy, stem cells, living wages, body armor for our troops, government accountability, and that exercising the right to dissent is the highest form of patriotism.
Liberals believe in reading actual books, going to war as a last resort, separating church and hate, and doing what Jesus would actually do, instead of lobbying for upper-class tax cuts and fantasizing about the apocalypse.
Liberals believe in civil rights, the right to privacy, and that evolution and global warming aren’t just theories but incontrovertible scientific facts.
Liberals believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment that (1) prohibits another Bush from ever occupying the White House, and (2) prevents George W. Bush from ever becoming baseball commissioner before he does to our national pastime what he did for America.
Liberals believe in rescuing people from flooded streets and rooftops, even if they’re too poor to vote Republican.
Liberals believe that supporting our troops means treating our wounded vets like the heroes they are, and not leaving them to languish in rat-infested military hospitals under the outsourced management of incompetent cronies who think they’re running a Taco Bell franchise.
Liberals believe in pheromones, sex ed, solar panels, voting paper trails, the common good, and that, no matter how fascinating a story it may be, a president should never sit around in a state of total paralysis reading "My Pet Goat" while America is under attack.
And above all, liberals believe that it’s time to come together as a country and put a collective boot in the ass of shameless conservative fearmongers, hate merchants, and scapegoaters who are sucking the freedom out of all our souls.

Your Thursday Molly Ivins Moment:
Bush, Cheney and Co. will continue to play the patriotic bully card just as long as you let them. I've said it before: War brings out the patriotic bullies. In World War I, they went around kicking dachshunds on the grounds that dachshunds were "German dogs." They did not, however, go around kicking German shepherds. The MINUTE someone impugns your patriotism for opposing this war, turn on them like a snarling dog and explain what loving your country really means. That, or you could just piss on them elegantly, as Rep. John Murtha did. Or eviscerate them with wit (look up Mark Twain on the war in the Philippines). Or point out the latest in the endless "string of bad news."
Do not sit there cowering and pretending the only way to win is as Republican-lite. If the Washington-based party can't get up and fight, we'll find someone who can.

If Clinton had pulled this shit during his 2nd term, the Repukes would have impeached him 10 times (the last 9 just for fun), jailed him, tortured him, killed him slowly, over a period of weeks, fed him to some liberal's dog, then jailed and tortured the dog, then slowly killed the dog, then force-fed the dog to Chelsea.
THEN they would have gotten mad!
They would have been screaming about how Clinton was setting himself above the law.
They would have been screaming about him not being accountable (or, in that case, THINKING that he wasn't accountable, because they don't have a bunch of spineless fascists sitting around; they have a bunch of fascists that will take action - as long is the leadership tells them to.

Your Tax Dollars At Labor

Keeping track of Bush Administration scandals is difficult, in part because there are so damn many of them. For example, there's now an entire website dedicated to the various failings of Secretary of Labor (and wife of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell) Elaine Chao. There's defiance of congressional oversight:
The acting assistant secretary for mine safety and health David G. Dye, along with the administrator of coal mine safety and health Ray McKinney, both walked out of a January 2006 hearing by a Senate subcommittee, claiming they were "too busy with their duties to stay."
Appointing department employees to conduct "independent oversight":
: Despite complaints from miners and Congress, Elaine tapped former MSHA employees to investigate their own agency's handling of the disaster as part of an "independent commission," raising further questions about the validity of the investigation.
No-bid contracts:
: Despite complaints from miners and Congress, Elaine tapped former MSHA employees to investigate their own agency's handling of the disaster as part of an "independent commission," raising further questions about the validity of the investigation.
Electioneering:
During the 2006 midterm elections, Elaine and other administration officials traveled across the country awarding government funding, with great public fanfare, to districts where Mitch's embattled Senate colleagues — including Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA) — were fighting to hold onto their seats.
And finally a totally over-the-top self-promotion at taxpayers expense:
Elaine used taxpayer funds to line the walls of the Labor Department with 58 pictures of herself, embroider her name on lanyards and fleece blankets distributed at conferences, and hand out Elaine-themed gold-colored coins at public events.
Man, I want a gold-colored coin with a bas relief of my face on it. See the site for much much much more.

About this article

The US administration is pressing the 27 governments of the European Union to sign up for a range of new security measures for transatlantic travel, including allowing armed guards on all flights from Europe to America by US airlines.
The demand to put armed air marshals on to the flights is part of a travel clampdown by the Bush administration that officials in Brussels described as "blackmail" and "troublesome", and could see west Europeans and Britons required to have US visas if their governments balk at Washington's requirements.
According to a US document being circulated for signature in European capitals, EU states would also need to supply personal data on all air passengers overflying but not landing in the US in order to gain or retain visa-free travel to America, senior EU officials said.
And within months the US department of homeland security is to impose a new permit system for Europeans flying to the US, compelling all travellers to apply online for permission to enter the country before booking or buying a ticket, a procedure that will take several days.
The data from the US's new electronic transport authorisation system is to be combined with extensive personal passenger details already being provided by EU countries to the US for the "profiling" of potential terrorists and assessment of other security risks.
Washington is also asking European airlines to provide personal data on non-travellers - for example family members - who are allowed beyond departure barriers to help elderly, young or ill passengers to board aircraft flying to America, a demand the airlines reject as "absurd".
Seven demands tabled by Washington are contained in a 10-page "memorandum of understanding" (MOU) that the US authorities are negotiating or planning to negotiate with all EU governments, according to ministers and diplomats from EU member states and senior officials in Brussels. The Americans have launched their security drive with some of the 12 mainly east European EU countries whose citizens still need visas to enter the US.
"The Americans are trying to get a beefing up of their visa-waiver programmes. It's all contained in the MOU they want to put to all EU member states," said a diplomat from a west European country. "It's a very delicate problem."
As part of a controversial passenger data exchange programme allegedly aimed at combating terrorism, the EU has for the past few months been supplying the American authorities with 19 items of information on every traveller flying from the EU to the US.
The new American demands go well beyond what was agreed under that passenger name record (PNR) system and look certain to cause disputes within Europe and between Europe and the US.
Brussels is pressing European governments not to sign the bilateral deals with the Americans to avoid weakening the EU bargaining position. But Washington appears close to striking accords on the new travel regime with Greece and the Czech Republic. Both countries have sizeable diaspora communities in America, while their citizens need visas to enter the US. Visa-free travel would be popular in both countries.
A senior EU official said the Americans could get "a gung-ho frontrunner" to sign up to the new regime and then use that agreement "as a rod to beat the other member states with". The frontrunner appears to be the Czech Republic. On Wednesday, Richard Barth of the department of homeland security was in Prague to negotiate with the Czech deputy prime minister, Alexandr Vondra,
Prague hoped to sign the US memorandum "in the spring", Vondra said. "The EU has done nothing for us on visas," he said. "There was no help, no solidarity in the past. It's in our interest to move ahead. We can't just wait and do nothing. We have to act in the interest of our citizens."
While the Czechs are in a hurry to sign up, Brussels is urging delay in order to try to reach a common European position.
"There is a process of consultation and coordination under way," said Jonathan Faull, a senior European commission official involved in the negotiations with the Americans.
To European ears, the US demands sound draconian. "This would oblige the European countries to allow US air marshals on US flights. It's controversial and difficult," an EU official said. At the moment the use of air marshals is discretionary for European states and airlines.
While armed American guards would be entitled to sit on the European flights to the US, the Americans also want the PNR data transfers extended from travellers from Europe to the US to include the details of those whose flights are not to America, but which overfly US territory, say to central America or the Caribbean.
Brussels has told Washington that its demands raise legal problems in Europe over data protection, over guarantees on how the information is handled, over which US agencies have access to it or with whom it might be shared, and over issues of redress if the data is misused.
The Association of European Airlines, representing 31 airlines, including all the big west European national carriers, has told the US authorities that there is "no international legal foundation" for supplying them with data about passengers on flights overflying US territory.
The US Transport Security Administration has also asked the European airlines to supply personal data on "certain non-travelling members of the public requesting access to areas beyond the screening checkpoint".
The AEA said this was "absurd" because the airlines neither obtain nor can obtain such information. The request was "fully unjustified".
If the Americans persevere in the proposed security crackdown, Brussels is likely to respond with tit-for-tat action, such as calling for visas for some Americans.
European governments, however, would probably veto such action, one official said, not least for fear of the "massive disruption given the huge volume of transatlantic traffic".

In heavily redacted documents released by the Ministry of Homeland Security, we learn that the State Department, Pentagon, Justice Department, CIA, National Security Agency and other leviathan agencies consider “hackers, bloggers and even reporters” a threat to national security.
In “dozens of detailed, mock disasters,” the Associated Press reports, these “villains” launch “electronic attacks” against “computers at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.” Adding to the treason, a “major news network” refuses to air its sources when reporting the fictional attacks, as of course we know the media is expected to serve the state. In the real, non-Bushzarro world, of course, the corporate media would never run such a story, but never mind, the Ministry would have us believe it is the 1970s, back when newspapers on occasion ran investigative journalism.
“The $3 million, invitation-only war game simulated what the U.S. described as plausible attacks over five days in February 2006 against the technology industry, transportation lines and energy utilities by anti-globalization hackers,” the Associated Press continues. In other words, as the Ministry would have it, “plausible attacks” come not from an imaginary al-Qaeda, the CIA created terror group, but rather from people opposed to the globalist plan to turn the world into a slave plantation based on the China model.

In that time, our country has been tested in ways none of us could have imagined. We faced hard decisions about peace and war, rising competition in the world economy, and the health and welfare of our citizens. These issues call for vigorous debate, and I think it's fair to say we've answered the call." VIGOROUS FUCKING DEBATE?!?!?! EXCUSE ME YOU SCUMBAG MOTHERBUTTFUCKER, but, you have done EVERYTHING within your power since you stole office in 2000 from my backyard of Palm Beach TO SQUASH DEBATE!!! Oh yeah, like we forget you and your goddamn "FREE SPEECH ZONES"!??!!? Does anyone care? Anyone? Hello . . .????
The story appeared late yesterday from the Associated Press titled, "False Statements Preceded War."
It said, in part, "A study by two nonprofit journalism organizations found that President Bush and top administration officials issued hundreds of false statements [goddam lies!] about the national security threat from Iraq in the two years following the 2001 terrorist attacks. The study concluded that the statements 'were part of an orchestrated campaign that effectively galvanized public opinion and, in the process, led the nation to war under decidedly false pretenses.'"
The article, by AP writer Douglass K. Daniel, continued. "The study counted 935 false statements [lies, goddam it; lies!] in the two-year period. It found that in speeches, briefings, interviews and other venues, Bush and administration officials stated unequivocally on at least 532 occasions that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction or was trying to produce or obtain them or had links to al-Qaida or both."
Astonishing. Criminal. Nazi-like lies from the most corrupt regime ever to control the U.S. - the Bush Crime Family.
The article continued: "It is now beyond dispute that Iraq did not possess any weapons of mass destruction or have meaningful ties to al-Qaida," according to Charles Lewis and Mark Reading-Smith of the Fund for Independence in Journalism staff members, writing an overview of the study. "In short, the Bush administration led the nation to war on the basis of erroneous information [goddam lies!] that it methodically propagated and that culminated in military action against Iraq on March 19, 2003."
Named in the study along with Bush were his then top officials: Vice President Dick Cheney, national security adviser Condoleezza Rice, Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld, Secretary of State Colin Powell, Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz and White House press secretaries Ari Fleischer and Scott McClellan.
The article concluded, "The cumulative effect of these false statements [goddam lies!] — amplified by thousands of news stories and broadcasts — was massive, with the media coverage creating an almost impenetrable din for several critical months in the run-up to war," the study concluded.
"Some journalists — indeed, even some entire news organizations — have since acknowledged that their coverage during those prewar months was far too deferential and uncritical. These mea culpas notwithstanding, much of the wall-to-wall media coverage provided additional, 'independent' validation of the Bush administration's false statements [goddam lies!] about Iraq," it said.
And Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and the rest of the cowardly, complicit Democratic Party leadership refuses - utterly refuses! - immediately to begin impeachment proceedings against the murderous bastards who are taking the U.S. directly into its own destruction.

Good news: Fewer people moving to Florida
By CARL HIAASEN
The mad stampede of new residents into Florida is finally slowing down, the inevitable result of high taxes, miserable traffic, overcrowded classrooms and other unappealing urban problems.
According to the Census Bureau, the state's population grew by only 1.1 percent during the 12-month span ending last July 1. That's a significant dip from the 1.8 percent increase recorded the previous year, and it drops Florida's growth rate to 19th in the nation.
This is a cause for relief, not panic. Any lull in the avalanche of incoming humanity should be eagerly welcomed by the 18.3 million souls already living here. The last thing we need is more warm bodies clogging the roads, schools, courts, jails and hospitals.
A break is long overdue. It's not a crisis but rather an opportunity. At long last, state and community leaders might be forced to intelligently confront the economic blowback from decades of inept planning and greed-fueled runaway growth.
With each passing day, Florida is becoming a less desirable place to live. For the first time in modern memory, moving companies report that they're transporting more families out of the Sunshine State than into it.
The disenchantment is widespread and deep-seated, judging by a new Mason-Dixon survey that was released by Leadership Florida, a group founded by the state Chamber of Commerce.
Of more than 1,100 residents interviewed by telephone in November, 43 percent said their quality of life has declined over the last five years. That's an eye-popping number, up 7 percent from 2006.
More evidence that lots of people see their Florida dream dissolving: Of those surveyed, only 24 percent said they think things will get better during the next five years. Thirty-seven percent believe the state will become a worse place to live during that time.
The increasingly glum outlook of many Floridians isn't just a reaction to off-the-chart property taxes and insurance rates, as politicians want us to believe.
More and more folks are figuring out what serious urban planners have known for a long time: Run-amok growth doesn't pay for itself. Taxpayers always get stuck with the bill for sprawl and also with the hometown ills it brings. By an overwhelming margin of nearly three-to-one, Floridians polled in the Leadership Florida survey oppose higher population densities in their neighborhoods -- a view that resonates fairly evenly among registered Democrats, Republicans and independents.
A majority of residents, 52 percent, believe local governments are ''not effectively managing growth'' in their communities. The figure is unchanged from 2006, and the Mason-Dixon pollsters describe the sentiment as ``strong and and consistent among all groups and across the state.''
Respondents were divided evenly when asked whether new people moving into Florida was good or bad. The question is rarely even whispered among politicians, many of whom live in fear of antagonizing the developers, bankers and road builders who bankroll election campaigns.
The beleaguered sense among many Floridians -- that they're not only being overtaxed but overrun -- will not soon go away. Politicians who resist calls for strict land-use reforms and continue to shill for special interests risk being dumped from office by those whom they've ignored.
It's happened already in scores of municipalities where voters got fed up watching their green spaces malled and paved while the waterfronts went condo.
The social equation isn't complicated. The more people you cram into a place, even a place as vast and geographically diverse as Florida, the more stressful life becomes for everybody. It also becomes more expensive. Ask anyone in New York or California what happened to their taxes as the populations of those states swelled.
A bipartisan group that advocates semi-sane growth policies, 1000 Friends of Florida, last year predicted that the state's population would double to 36 million by 2060, and that seven million acres of agricultural land and wilderness would be converted to concrete and asphalt.
That was before the real-estate market tanked and the subprime mortgage racket imploded, but there's no denying that even an overcrowded Florida continues to hold some mythical allure, whether you live in Dubuque or Port-au-Prince.
Despite their rising disillusionment, about 62 percent of those interviewed for the Leadership Florida poll said they'd still recommend the state as a place for friends or relatives to live.
For strangers? Maybe not. Because growth is an exalted industry unto itself, rather than the natural result of a broadening economic base, lawmakers have always focused on attracting hordes of new residents at all costs. The first casualty of such a fast-buck mentality is the quality of life.
One out of five Floridians surveyed in November say they are ''seriously considering'' moving elsewhere.
This is what's known as a message. And, for those who've sold out Florida's future to enrich their campaign coffers, it breaks down like this:
Enough.
