Trent Reznor’s post Nine Inch Nails project has been revealed as How to Destroy Angels.

The new band, which is made up of the musician and his wife Mariqueen Maandig, have launched their website and released a 40 second video clip, which introduces an ambient, heavy electro sound, and shows a woman’s hand - believed to be Mariqueen’s – working a synthesiser.

The only statement released so far by the band reads: “Self-titled 6-track EP out this summer. Exact date TBA.”

Multi-instrumentalist Trent– who retired his band Nine Inch Nails from playing live last year - has previously promised he will release new music this year, saying in December last year he will be working on projects: “Including new material from Nine Inch Nails and something else that isn’t Nine Inch Nails.”

One of Trent’s friends, electro-rocker Gary Numan, recently said the new material will be a departure from the polished industrial metal sound of Nine Inch Nails.

He said: “I went out to dinner with Trent and he said then that it’d be great to do something very different from what both of us have done before, which sounds very exciting. I know he’s been back in the studio working on stuff. He works constantly.”

Post punk pop polymath Gary Numan has told The Quietus that he and former Nine Inch Nails mainman Trent Reznor are likely to be heading into the studio to write some material together.

Asked if a recorded collaboration was on the cards, Numan said "Yes. I know he wants to carry on doing music things. We went out a few days after [the LA gigs] with a few other people and the way he puts it is when the dust settles – I think he means his marriage – but I think he’s going to be pretty busy for a while, so it’ll either be later this year or early next."

Will it be a Trent Raznor and Gary Numan album or just a few songs? "Probably just a few songs to start with and see how it goes on. It'll be cool"

Numan also said that his recent live appearances at Nine Inch Nails' final London gigs at the O2 were a "fantastic experience", though the band weren't exactly like he expected: "For some reason, I don’t know why, I just thought it would be a different atmosphere to what it was. And what it was was just really warm and friendly, and Nine Inch Nails and warm and friendly don't necessarily go together! I should have known better. Everyone was great, the crew, the band, everybody, they made me feel really welcome. It was a fantastic experience, I was riding on that for a bit."

The cherry on the icing on the cake, though, came when he headed to the States for NIN's very last gigs in LA: "Trent invited me over to Los Angeles, which was fantastic though it took a bit of organising because of the kids and stuff. They made it a much bigger thing, instead of one of two songs it was now more songs, and we’d do different sets each night. Other guests were coming on too, Janes' Addiction, Mike Garson from Bowie's band, they were playing bits from _my_ songs! At one point I had Janes' Addiction, Mike Garson and Nine Inch Nails playing my stuff and Trent Reznor doing backing vocals, it was amazing. It was quite a historic thing, these were their final shows.

"Trent on the last night stopped it at one point and went to the mic and did this really lovely little speech about me and how important I was and I was just standing there trying not to... you don’t want to be really really humble, because it looks as if you don’t appreciate it, and you don’t want to be going 'oh yes' because it looks like your full of yourself. It was really awkward."

Hey guys-

This will likely be my last explanation of this, so feel free to post this around wherever.

Regarding the NIN/JA tour:
It was my idea, decision and job to convince all parties (from my own band to Janes') to play before JA. Here is why. We've become tired of the "formal", very structured LITS (Lu Cifer note: LITS = Lights In The Sky, name of 2008 NIN tour...yeah, I had to look it up!) - type production and way of presenting the band. The idea of walking onstage as the sun is about to set and play a bunch of unexpected material that's exciting for us to play without the bogged-down, flashy production appeals to me. You get to see us in a way you haven't before. Yes, it's different. Yes, the set lists will amaze some and bum-out many others. Everyone had ample opportunities to see LITS, and that era is over. We play our set leading you into the evening bathed in only white light in a physically tight setup, then Jane's come out in full color and openness. The challenge for us is greater, the set feels much riskier (especially with the challenging flow of the set lists I'm making) and that makes it exciting and valid for us.
The NIN/JA tour is generally geared more towards the hardcore NIN fan. We're not trying to play the greatest hits - we've done that over and over. Don't expect the same shit every night - that's why I relaxed the camera / recording policy. You'll likely be able to find what you want out there somewhere, from wherever. I'm treating these last shows as individual, finite, precious events that I'm sure will result in some polarization of your responses.
