HOUR ONE GUEST: Democratic strategist, former aide to US Senator Lloyd Bentson, Brent Budowsky. Brent’s latest piece in The Hill is “Now President Bush Is Losing Pakistan”.

HOUR TWO GUEST:
Former Federal Prosecutor and author of “US v Bush”, Elizabeth de la Vega.

MUKASEY:
Mukasey Survives First Hurdle! The Senate Judiciary Committee approved his nomination 11-8. It now goes to the FULL SENATE.

Friday evening surprise: Schumer and Feinstein’s announcement that they would be backing Mukasey was carefully timed to avoid scrutiny.

24 former intelligence officials sent a letter to Patrick Leahy and Arlen Specter asking them not to send Mukasey’s nomination to the full Senate until he makes clear his opinion on whether waterboarding is torture.

According to John Nichols from The Nation, Mukasey is much worse than Gonzo.

IT'S TORTURE!
The agonizing truth about CIA renditions. In some ways it's even worse than Hollywood has portrayed!

PAKISTAN:
Pakistani police beat protesting lawyers again yesterday. PM Shaukat Aziz said the elections would take place on schedule, though Musharraf has not commented.

The constitution has been ripped to shreds," Chaudhry said.

Bush is urging Musharraf to hold scheduled elections and give up his military post “as soon as possible” but didn’t indicate there would be any change in American policy as a result of Musharraf’s actions.

Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Sen. Joe Biden said, "Musharraf is in a situation where the military, it matters to the military, if they have the P3's, these aircraft and these F16s [that the U.S. has promised to deliver] and I would make it clear that if he, in fact, is going to continue to keep Marshall Law in place and not hold these parliamentary elections. If I were president, I'd make it clear I would withhold these sales."

1 out of 4 lawyers jailed and many judges detained in their own homes. Pakistan courts are in lockdown! Police earned cash bonuses for beating and arresting hundreds of lawyers Monday who had gathered outside of Lahore's courthouse, police sources said.

Do As I Say, Not As I Do Dept: Dana Perino says the White House opinion is that it is never reasonable to restrict constitutional freedoms in the name of fighting terrorism.

Here is the National Security Presidential Directive/NSPD 51

IMPEACH DICK!
Today is the day Kucinich plans to introduce a privileged resolution to impeach Vice President Dick Cheney. What is a privileged resolution? READ AND TRACK the resolution.

It’s Time To Impeach Cheney by Dennis Kucinich.

WAR ON TERROR:
A new USA Today / Gallup poll shows that 73% of the Americans polled said that the US should use sanctions and diplomacy to stop Iran’s nuclear program. 46% said that if diplomacy doesn’t work then military action should be used.

THE ’08 CANDIDATES:
We are 1 year away from the '08 elections and Hillary is still the person to beat.

Joe Biden says he is not interested in being Hillary’s VP – because Bill Clinton is such a “dominant and powerful and positive force” he would overshadow any VP.

AT THE PUMP:
Gasoline prices have hit $3 a gallon for the first time ever in November.

SIDEBARS:
President Bush presented CSPAN’s Brian Lamb with the Presidential Medal of Freedom yesterday.

Senator Larry Craig’s office sent out an email about a found watch—in the men’s room.

Fascism in America! Our new friend Naomi Wolf wrote: A "Paper Coup," and Blackwater Eyes Midtown Manhattan.

John Conyers, for the 9th time, has written a letter to WH counsel Fred Fielding with regards to subpoenas sent in the US attorney firings. Conyers is preparing to file a contempt report.
