And, a follow up to my post on stuff EVERY AMERICAN SHOULD DO, by "DJ" who posts on my SternAndMore group, it's solid gold, so I'll repost y'all what he wrote in bold, and then my comments, enjoy:
13-Learn how to read a map. Not the Mapquest bullshit. A good map that
includes topographical references. Most of these will have not only the
basic lay of the land but places to get water. Look in your local
backpacking type store.
13A (sorry, thought about this after and too fucking lazy to retype the
numbers...lol) Folks who travel the less traveled roads (backpackers and
such) have ways of marking the trail to point out where others things
(from water to whatever) can be found. Read up on this. Nice to be able
to find water/food just by seeing a mark on the trail (small stack of
stones, I believe called kirin usually marks water areas)
14 Learn how to use a compass along with a map
15-If you live close to open water (Ocean type), know of places to
"acquire" a boat. Better if it's a sail type. If further inland, find
out the water ways around and quickest way to get to open water.
16-Learn to fish with/without bait (tying fly and shit like that)
17- learn how to make salt water drinkable (desalination by either
reverse osmosis or distill it like you would moon shine)
18-If Ocean if almost impossible to get to, large lake with some sort of
island in middle can be a good place to catch you breath before making a
move to the coast
19 Night travel always
20-Get the fuck outta Dodge

Agreed, READ A MAP ASSHOLES!!! I'm seriously NOT out to put myself over, but, I'VE BEEN ABLE TO READ A MAP SINCE I WAS 3 FUCKING YEARS OLD!!!!! Mapquest is BULLSHIT!!!! For the RECORD: IF you are trying to get to TAMPA (& that area) from the Treasure Coast (Ft. Pierce/PSL/Vero/Stuart) or South FloriDUH (Miami/Lauderdale/WPB) YOU FUCKING DO NOT NEED TO GO TO ORLANDO THEN TAKE I-4 THERE!!!!!! Get off I-95 in Vero or get off the Turndyke in Heehaw Junkshop AND TAKE FUCKING SR 60!!!!
I actually had to take some backroads today, this rain was FUCKING BULLSHIT! As it was, I could barely see 100 FEET AHEAD!!!! Fun fun fun!!!!!

Desalinize water: DAMN good idear! I like what what's-his-face Survivorman, Les Stroud (sic?!) did, putting a sheet of plastic over a tray of ocean water, then a cup in the middle so the condensed "pure" water could drip down into the cup! Like Les said best, NO MATTER where you go, you can ALWAYS find HUMAN FUCKING GARBAGE TO USE FOR SURVIVAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
