It’s Friday, Ya Bastards!

WEEK IN REVIEW:

S-CHIP:
The House failed to override Bush's SCHIP veto.

Rep. Pete Stark (D-CA) was more than a little upset after the SCHIP veto override failed. He said, "You don't have money to fund the war or children. But you're going to spend it to blow up innocent people if we can get enough kids to grow old enough for you to send to Iraq to get their heads blown off for the president's amusement." Listen to Pete Stark’s comments made on the floor yesterday.

Though the override of Bush’s SCHIP veto failed yesterday, Speaker Pelosi said that a new bill would be drawn with minor changes.

No Child Left Alone: 2-year-old S-CHIP recipient Bethany Wilkerson is new target of right-wingers.

Mitch McConnell’s staff DID write emails interested in smearing the Frosts, and then lied about doing so.

WIRETAPPING:
The Senate Intelligence Committee voted 13-2 to approve compromise legislation that tightens the rules for spying. If passed, the bill would also give immunity to the telecom companies who took part in the warrantless wiretapping after 2001.

Chris Dodd said he will block a vote on the bill because of the provision granting immunity to the telecom companies.

Dick Durbin will not grant blanket immunity to telecoms either.

Arlen Specter says he doesn't know what they have done, so why would we give them immunity?

Glenn Greenwald wrote: AT&T, Other Telecoms, buy victory in lawsuits.

Here's the Federal Court's ruling striking down AT & T's claim that they can engage in warrantless wiretaps for National Security purposes. The case now goes to the Appeals Court who will most likely uphold the lower court decision that says basically 'GET A FREAKIN WARRANT!"

The House put off voting on an eavesdropping bill after Republicans tried to kill the bill by attaching an amendment implying that Democrats want to "prohibit surveillance against Osama bin Laden, al Qaeda and any other foreign intelligence organization."

Verizon admits participating in the illegal spy program.

Qwest lost some big government contracts after they refused to cooperate with "improper government requests" in February 2001.

FEAR MONGERING:
Bush raised the specter of World War III. Actually, the fact that Bush is president raises the specter of World War III.

Another new low for Bush: His approval rating is down to 24%.

Despite his low approval rating Bush claimed that he is still relevant.

LIMBAUGH:
Limbaugh once threatened a journalist after finding out the journalist was going to do an unflattering cover story on him. Limbaugh said, “"We'll find out where your kids go to school, how you paid for your house, where you drink".

WAR ON TERROR:
As reported on Monday: Al-Qaeda In Iraq Crippled!

As reported on Monday: Iraqi National Security Adviser Mowaffak Al-Rubaie told Dick Cheney that Iraq does not want permanent US military bases in Iraq. That’s a “BIG FAT NO”!

Turkey’s parliament approved a plan that would allow their troops to cross into northern Iraq. Word to the Turks: our Congress did something similar, and now there are a lot of regrets.

Robert Gates said that as far as Iran goes, all options are on the table.

Airlines are not being protected from bombs being brought on board…. At LAX, fake bombs are missed 75% of the time…but they can find 3 and one half ounces of baby formula and eye makeup remover.

HELLO DALAI!
China is furious after the Dalai Lama was awarded America’s highest civilian honor, the Congressional Gold Medal.

THE ’08 CANDIDATES:

Sam Brownback is expected to drop out of ’08 presidential race.

Gore says he has no intention for running for president.

MUKASAY CONFIRMATION:
During confirmation hearings, Michael Mukasay managed to avoid the phrase “I don’t recall.”

During his 2nd day of confirmation hearings, Mukasay hedged regarding torture techniques.

SIDEBARS:
Dennis Hastert plans to give up his extra-large, reinforced Senate seat!

The Army, Navy and Air Force advertised for recruits on GLEE.com, a gay web site. Most of the ads have been pulled.
